Raymond's Story

Life After high school I attended Mississippi Delta Jr College, but never finished. Found a girlfriend and decided to get married -- stike 1. Shortly after this marriage, got drafted and soon on my way to Viet Nam -- strike 2. While serving in Viet Nam, realised my new wife wasn't who I thought she was -- strike 3. I made it through the Viet Nam era, rather enjoyed it as I realised I did not really have anything to go home to-- Wife Missing In Action. While I was in Viet Nam I decided to visit Australia for R&R as meeting up with the wife at the time would have been a waste of time and money. While in Australia met my current wife, cancels strike 2 above. We met for an arranged get-to-together for servicemen visiting the country, ended up sharing a table with her and her sister and the rest is history. We became pen-pals as she was aware of my married status so we just wrote letters for 12 months. But, alas, this all changed when she decided to visit the USA with her sister. We spent about two weeks traveling across the south and formed a bond. It was meant to be. We returned to Greenville, the day before my divorce to wife #1 was finalised. Got the divorce, walked down to Farnsworth Jewelers bought the engagement ring and got married six months later. Finally finished the military service in December 1972 and retuned to Greenville until June '75. I was tranferred to another job in Arizona until Sep '79. Once again, transferred to Baton Rouge until Jun '81, yes - transferred again to Houston TX. This last assignment was that infamous straw, too much of the office politics, too much butt to kiss to get ahead. I decided they could kiss my butt. I quit (1982), sold everything and here I am after 26 years. Somewhere in the middle of the above, my wife I wanted to have a child, but it would just not happen for us. W...Expand for more
hile I was on my way between Arizona and Baton Rouge I rang my wife to check in and was told we were going to adopt a baby, not yet born and was asked if that was OK with me. Boy oh boy! With that adopted boy, I now have the most beautiful grand- - - daughter in the whole world. Well folks, that's my life. I kinda left some of the bad bits and some of the I'm the greatest bits out. Who'd believe you anyway. April 28, 2008. Life is about the same. I missed the 40-year reunion as I was a bit too sick to travel, terrible flu. We have our winter, Downunder, during your summer, hince the flu. I will make the next one, whether it be in 2012 or 2017 with the good Lord willing. Still in pretty good health considering the effects of gravity at our ages. Had heart problems a while back but all seems to have been fixed with six new stints to allow oxyginated blood to flow to my lungs to stop the chest pains. I am on medication, when I take it. Never been one to take drugs, medically or socially. Almost 60 years old now and can say that I have only had one puff of a joint and that is my experience with social drugs. I only have about 4 beers a month. The beer thing does change when I visit my brother, Robert. We tend to polish off lots and lots and lots when we are together. We have a lot to catch up on and all of the fun memories come back after a few beers. July 17, 2008. Just had a recent operation on my neck July 11, 2008 to remove calcium build up in the vertebrae that was pinching the nerves to my left arm. Surgery was on the Friday, home Saturday and back to work on Monday. All good, just a few aches and pains from sitting too long in the crap office chair. Only have a two inch scar on my neck, not that you would really notice with the rest of the old age wrinkles that are creeping into that area. How's your life.
