Reb's Story

Life Not much to write, I retired at 44, and have been doing volunteer work. Mostly as a chaplain at a maximum security prison. I've just had a publisher agree to read my first novel... the first two levels of readers liked it, but who knows what will happen. I'm not a writer, but my wife has done a very good job of fixing what I've written. The publisher is the second largest of the genre (science fiction) so it will probably die on his desk. Still, I had fun writing and working with my wife on a project like this. Update: The Publisher (Baen) died with the book on his desk... I'm not sure what that says, but one day I'll get around to sending it out again. I spend a lot of time watching my daughter chase a soccer ball. She was all-state in high school and is in her last year of her college scholarship. Update: I'm not sure where I failed, my daughter is now married to a Marine office and is a spy (works for the DIA) and both are headed to the 'Stan... one day I'll learn to spell that place. I'm getting to know my first grandchild a boy of nine months. Grand kids seem to be all they're cranked up to be. He, my son and daughter-in-law, live about five minutes from our house, but my wife of 35 years think...Expand for more
s that's too far. She's now my wife of 41 years and my son has become a professional begger working for Southwestern University... they call it alumni relations, but it's begging. They are now expecting their 3rd and Nancy who baby sits twice a week still thinks it's too far. Update 2015 My son is now begging at a different university, Elon, and my three grandsons are much too far away. My daughter is still married to her Marine, now a captain, and he is getting ready to deploy again. She still works for the DIA but they are now living in North Carolina. I can't believe the government spent almost $40,000 to allow her to "remote work" but then I have a hard time seeing her as a respected analyst. I still remember all of the illogical teenage years but who am I to judge? They have three children a girl three, a boy two, and a boy almost 1 I'm still retired and still as active as I can be in Kairos prison ministry, it's hard to believe I've been doing that for 19 years. I was diagnosed two years ago with pulmonary fibrosis, and I am not as active as I was or would like to be. I really should self publish my book, as that seems to be the way to go these days but unfortunately the IPF has sapped all of my energy.
