Rebecca's Story
Life
I Just recently sold my business, a hair salon, and feel pretty great about it. Now just doing hair again and enjoying my family. I have one son, Sterling, from a previous marriage. He's 6 and a real nut, don't know where he gets it.
I met my husband on a blind date about a month after I turned 30, so I guess you could say my life started then. He had been living here for about two months. He was born and raised in Puerto Rico. Now we've been married 2 1/2 years. We like to visit his family there a couple of times a year, as well as other travels. We spend a lot of time riding his motorcycle, attending various mardi gras functions and fund raising events. But mostly we're homebodies and kind of boring to tell you the truth. I also do photography and wedding planning on the side, of course helping out with Sterlings school and being a mom goes in there too.
I've learned a lot about life in the past 17 years, just like everyone else I guess, learned what a real friend is, and how hard it is to open your eyes to the truth sometimes. What it means to really be there for someone and to not just think of myself and whats best for me. Unfortunately most of that was learned the hard way. But from the bad comes the good and I'd say that I live a very blessed life.
School
Well, of course everyone knew me as the other half of Paul Martin. Good times, good times. Its ONLY been 17 years and still if I see anyone from that era, they always ask if I've seen Paul or heard anything about him. Of course, I'll never forget my best buds.....Jolynn (since second grade to now), Cindy, Lisa, Darlene, Dianna.....
Still remember a couple of crazy things I did with the gang..........
Joe Strouse, several unforgetables there, he was such a trip. Me...Expand for more
t him in middle school (St. Elmo) I would hear him way outside at lunch time ripping a massive burp, and I'd scream, "JOE, you NASTY".
I remember one time I was without a boyfriend And Dianna had one. The three of us were at her house (suppervised, of course) and I was whinning that I was lonely and she said, "Go ahead, just kiss him!". and low and behold I did. She was tripping out!! WE laughed.......... I mean, thats a friend. Hilarious.
Jolynn and I running the roads in my little MR2. Some dudes started chasing us one night in that car, a persuit that went on for miles and miles. Across the bay and back, downtown, mid town, west Mobile name it we went there, doing 90 at least. Finally they gave up. Don't know why.
Anyway I could go on, I've got stories out the wazoo, but I'll spare yall.
Workplace
After high school I "thought" I wanted to be a teacher, so I went to work at Nan Gray Davis for a couple of years. Then realized that the kids were fine but the parents were another story. Anyway that grew old and I decided to take the easy route and become a hair stylist (like my mom). I mean come on, four years at Theodore High School, I could do some HAIR.
After Charles academy I went to work at Gayfers Hair Salon. Learned a lot in 6 years there and decided I wanted to go a little more exclusive and got a job at ILLUSIONS Hair Salon. After working there about 3 years I bought it and brought over several of my buds from the Gayfers days. Remodeled, made some improvements and gained some stress (as well as a few pounds),started feeling more frustration than fun and sold it about a month ago. I just enjoy working there now, with all my same friends and clients. 5 years was enough for me so I gave it up to the next sucker, I mean owner.
