Rebecca's Story

Life When I graduated I joined the Marines where I met my husband David, who I have been married to now for 26 years and counting. We had 3 handsome sons, my oldest is David (25), he is in the Marines now at Camp Lejeune and married and expecting my first grand baby in September, my middle son Zachary (21) is also a Marine and stationed at Cherry Point NC, he is waiting to be deployed on his 2nd deployment overseas, my youngest is Jordy (16) he will be a JR at Dobyns Bennett this fall. I am a stay at home mom now due to medical problems. I would love to hear from anyone who remembers me. I still live in Kingsport over on the west side now, I was in the Marines for 2 years and was stationed at Parris Island, San Antonio TX and Camp Lejeune NC. I loved the Marine Corps, it gave me alot of self confidence in myself and instilled in me the love of my country USA, I am very Patriotic and can't stand people who are so blase about it. I consider myself a good person, I don't get out much because of my medical problems, I have fibromyalgia, but I would love to visit Ireland. After the Marine Corps, I went to work as a 911 dispatcher for the city of Kingsport for 8 years, leaving after I had my 3rd son, I stayed home for 3 years with him and then decided to go back to work. I got a job that allowed me to be home when my sons were and out for the summers, I became a lunch lady. Best job for the hours, especially if you have kids and can get to work at their school like I did. Only bad thing is the heavy lifting, it caused me to have rotator cuff problems with both shoulders and I have had 2 surgeries on each shoulder, another reason I do not work anymore. We have a wonderful home, it's not a mansion but it is filled with love. I have 3 cats and a dog and enjoy all the time we spend as a family, having cookouts, swimming or just hanging out in the back yard. So I hope if anyone remembers me they will give me a holler. I went to South for 3 years and finished up at North because we moved my last year, and I got in some trouble laying out of school from South, since we moved I had to drive and had the car so I just didn't go to school if I didn't want to, so my mom found out and made me move to North and ride the bus for the longest time.... ha ha Memories....I cherish them though. So if you find me on here, give me a holler. I am also on Facebook (Becky Burke Mitchell) and Twitter. Hope to hear from some old friends.... Some little facts About Me - I always wanted to be a mom when I grew up. My family and friends thought that was a GREAT idea. As it turns out, they were right. I like to get a good book and a nice hot drink and relax on my back deck, by myself. My hero has always been my mother and father, they raised me to be the person I am, and I always try to make them proud with my decisions, and raise my children like they did. The one person from my past who I'd most like to see again is Kim Crawford, because we were best friends and in chorus together, and I miss her.. NASCAR - Jeff Gordon is my favorite of all time! ending time with my family and camping. I love reality TV, the dumber the better, cause it makes me realize how smart I truly am...lol If I could improve my home, I'd remodel my bedroom and add on a deck to my bedroom. My dream home would be in Atlantic Beach NC. I have learned patience from my children, not at first, but as the years went by I learned to be a better parent. I also learned about unconditional love from my boys! No matter what Love should be unconditional. Even if they get on your last nerve day after day always tell them how much you love them. If I won $100 million, I'd give 1 million each of it to St Judes, Jeff Gordon Childrens Hospital, pediatric reasearch for cancer and research for pancreatic cancer because my grandmother died from this, then spend the rest on family, a beach house and trips to Ireland, Scottland, Hawaii, Australia, England, Cabo San Lucas, and I would buy a RV and go to all the NASCAR races!!. My current age is 45. When I was 12, I thought that people my age now would be so fuddy duddy and over the hill. I was so completely wrong, I am not over the hill nor am I a fuddy duddy...lol. My best friend would tell you I'm crazy, but people who don't know me very well would probably describe me as probably stuck up, since I am shy when I first meet people. I share my home with my loving husband of 26 years, my youngest son and 3 cats and a dog, which I find wonderful. My biggest victory before marriage and kids was graduating from the United States Marine Corps bootcamp!!!! In 10 years, I hope to be happy and healthy and a good Nana to my grandbabies. I'm going to get there by eating right and taking care of myself physically and emotionally. That would have to be Kim Crawford, we met when I was a sophomore and she was a freshman in chorus. I think we clicked because we both love to sing and liked people, even though neither of us had alot of friends. We just got each other and could spend hours doing anything. I really miss her and hope she see this and gets back in contact with me. My first job was at Arbys, where I got paid minimum wage to take orders, fill orders, clean up . What I remember most about it is I was terrified the first day, but I remember my friends Patti and Tim, they were dating and he was our manager. Plus the money of my own!!! . I will never forget when I was 5 years old and rode my tricycle off of our front porch, and if that wasn't bad enough I landed in our rose bush. I remember my mom running down the hallway carrying me and waking my daddy up ( he worked graveyard at the Press), and him opening the door in his underwear...lol I was in the hospital for 7 days in traction because I broke my elbow. My dad told me a few years back that I almost died in the hospital then because I got a nose bleed and they could not get it stopped, they tried everything, but it took so long that they thought I would die. I guess God had other plans for me though since I made it thru and I am so glad! I have had a wonderful Blessed life so far and am looking forward to the rest of my life.
