Rebecca's Story
I have two daughters, and three grand children. My daughter Jerri has two children, Ashley and Josh. Jennifer has one son, Jason. Both my girls are nurses, and so am I.
I live in Tennessee . I have had several things in my life that has really been a hard thing to deal with. First, Jan. 1, 1988, I lost my 12 year old son, Jason, in an accident. I thought I would lose my mind. It took several years, but I grew from the experience. I was unable to deal with this terrible experience for a long time. I now can cry and laugh without getting lost in the emotions. Nov. 29, 1999, I was told I had lung cancer. I had surgery and that lasted for 2 years. It came back in the other lung. I went to Cancer Treatment Center of America, in Tulsa, OK and had treatment. What a wonderful place! After the treatment, the cancer was gone and has been for 6 years now!! My God is a good God!
My struggles in life have been many, and my years at Girard was very hard. I was a little girl from the south in Ohio! I said "ya'll" and was laughed at, humiliated, made fun of all...Expand for more
the time. I only wanted to be accepted. But that never happened. This experience killed my self esteem. I felt that because of the rejection from the kids at school, and the family life I lived, (which was very abusive in every way possible and none of you knew it,) I felt worthless, ugly, you name it. But, I overcome all of that, and today I am a better person for making it through it. And, yes, I still say "ya'll" lol. And I do want to thank each and every one of you for helping me to become the strong woman I am today!!
The cancer came back for the third time. God is SOOOO GOOD!! Once again, God and Cancer Treatment Center of America, in Tulsa, Ok., cured it! I am still recovering from the chemo and radiation, but will be fine.
All the ugliness I went through in high school, has paid off. Not ONCE did I ever ask for help from food stamps. I worked two jobs, went to school and raised three kids all alone with no help. But I done it. And today, I have two beautiful daughters who I am very proud of, and three wonderful grandchildren and they are my life!
