Rebecca's Story

I think classmates will remember me as always being willing to help anyone. I have always enjoyed meet- ing new people and making friends with those who may of been shy or affraid of meeting new people and trying to include them in whatever we all may of been doing. I haven't changed much compared to that, except I don't go anywhere anymore really. Now, I'm just enjoying everyday as it comes with my family and taking life easy. I met my hubby Chester Rainbow my freshmen year at Overfelt, and just before my senior year, while he was starting his first year of college at AWC, in Yuma. We were married on Oct. 23,'71 in the city of Yuma. He played football (of course)... After that we moved back to San Jose. Where we lived till our daughter was born. When the resession hit we came to TX to visit my family and stayed almost 2 yrs. Then we went back home to San Jose for about another 2 yrs. But jobs were hard to find and keep we just got sick of the 'rat race' and decided to move back here where jobs where so plentifull you had to be sure you really wanted that job, 'cause they'd hire you on the spot. They had the opposite problems here then. Like being in "Bizzaro World" (Seinfeld). So we moved here in Aug '82 and have never left. When our daughter was younger, her and I use to go for the summers to S. J. at first, but as she got older and involved in school she didn't want to leave for the summers anymore. For her this is home. She is now going to be 31 the 26th of May '08. She was our miracle baby, and has been my reason for living each day as if it could be my last. I want to make memories of a life I can be proud of for her. She is our only child, but not our only pregnancy. She has a son who was born on 9-6-06. Her husband Ryan is a chef, and has 2 children from a prior marriage. So we have 3 grandchildren.....After my accident (April 18,1969)I went through some really hard years, but only time would heal those scars and the pain of what I'd lost. Before 4-18-69 I was modeling part-time and working in real estate as a secretary for my dad. I loved school and everything about it. My life was school, church, family and friends. My grades had always been A's and B's. Right after I had trouble remembering my name for awhile. The Drs. gave me way to many drugs, because they didn't expect for me to live, and so began my spiral down, and back then drugs were everywhere I went. Finally, in '82 I thought I had to get out of S.J. to really get away from them, but I had to learn that it was ME I had to change, and not my location. I later went to school to become a Tx certified drug and alcohol counselor.... I ...Expand for more
will always love and miss San Jose, but there's just toooo many people there. Someday I hope to go back to see all the changes, and maybe see the old school. We moved to Ft. Worth and found the quiet, happiness and peace we were looking for here... I miss the way the eastside was when we moved there, with diary farms, orchards, fields of wild flowers, and mountains....My family had all moved here back in '72, so it was good to be with my family again who I'd missed so badly. Coming here gave me a chance to get to know my family again. I was able to get close to my parents again before they past on. I lost my mom 15 yrs ago. and my dad 16 mths. ago. They taught me alot. The first thing I learned was that God had already forgiven me, and then how to forgive myself for the 360 I had done with my life after the accident. Doctors would tell me it wasn't my fault, it was part of having such extensive head injuries, and then there were after effects during the healing process. The 18th of April was 39 yrs., and I'm glad to say, I've learned alot since then... If I've done or said anything to hurt anyone of you, let me say that I have sincerely regretted it all everyday of my life, and I hope you will be able to forgive me. If not yet, that's fine. That just means we really need to talk, and let me say to you how sorry I am. Please believe me that I would really like to make it right. God gave me another chance at life, and at first I blew it, but now I understand why I did those things, and it has helped me to help other young people deal with the after effects of sever head injuries and what is going to happen next and how to deal alittle more rationally with the changes. It also helps me reassure them that it may not be a permanent condition. Just thank God your still alive to beable to deal with it, and this too shall pass.....To all my friends who I don't have anything from the past but good memories, "What'z up!!! Let's get back in touch and start getting caughting up after all these years!! Tell me about your families, your careers, your hobbies, and who knows maybe see each other again".....So come on, where are you? Let's remember the good old 60's & & 70's and how much we miss big bell pants, hot pants, platform shoes (which are all back in style AGAIN) and THE MUSIC!!!... I have re-connected with so many of my dearest and closest of friends, and I couldn't be more thankfull to Classmates for making that possible. I'm looking forward to hearing form YOU too soon. Much love, peace and happiness. Hope to hear from so many more of you soon! Sincerely your friend always, Becky GO ROYALS !
