Reginald's Story
Well its been a long time since I sit down and thougth about how I got to where I am now. When people I say that on the 18th of April 1964 that I was born on the 10th floor, well at 6:57pm on a Tuesday night thats what happen! My Mother gave birth to me in the kitchen and the fire department took us to Mihcael Rease hospital. To me growing up in the projects was not like it ended up being. We were all family. The Branners, Jones, Ralphs,Pattersons, Atwoods, Coles, Griffins,Harris, Alexanders, Shephards, Holmes,Snipes, Hudsons, Weeks, and the man who my Mother told me she named me after, Reg Johnson. She said that when she heard his Mom call him it sounded so good ,and if I was a boy that would be th name that I would have. I was the youngest of 7..Charles(man),Robert,Ruth(etta), Claude(papa),Preston(reddog), Clara,(Big C)and me Dirty Redd(don't now how I got that nick name,LOL).My idea growing up of rich was a warm meal and a roof over my head. Became a White sox fan in 1972 and will be one until the lights are turned out on this small place!!Married to a wonderful lady who really showed me what true love is. Been through wars had many days in life when I felt like giving up but when you grow up where I grew up you grow stronger through lifes lessions.Living in Savannah Ga. until November, thats when my wife retires from the Army and we will be moving back north. My line ...Expand for more
of work is in substance abuse because of the many friends and family memebers that I lost, I chose to educate others and my self on what is needed to engage, assess, and terminate this problem all over the world. There were many brothers and sisters in and around 3919, some have been forgotten and some you never forget like.... Bro Spider who taught the young brothers what it was to be able to defend yourself. Mr. Clark the man who always made you feel safe. Mr.Connly who taught me how to fish.Mrs. Jackson(Toby's Mom), who kept a look out because she stayed on the 2nd floor, and put you in your place when you were doing wrong. I miss the block parties before school started, the soft ball games the football games and hanging out in 109 and the center. Kelvin Randel, Stacy Jackson, Ed,his brother Larry(rip), who was older than we were but kept us on the right path.I can recall sitting in the breeze way on a hot summer day and having water fights at night! I can remember going outside on seeing all the windows lite up for Christmas! As you can see without 3919 south federal to help raise me, I do not belive that I would be the man that I am today. Let me see..shot, stabed, cancer, metal plate in my back, two wars, addiction, and still here I stand!!!
