Reid's Story
This will not be a complete or well organized bio, I'm sure, but here's a shot at it:
I live in Atlanta now with my wife, Barbara Joye, of 14 years - we lived together for 7 years before getting married. No kids.
I joined the Coast Guard a year or so after I graduated from CVHS. I spent two years as a deck hand and two years as a photographer.
I make my living as a graphic designer and still do photography, which was my passion in high school if you remember, but I quit trying to make a living at it years ago. I exhibit my photos in galleries every now and then. All except for one of the galleries are out of business now, but that's not unusual.
At the age of 43 I did something that I'd always wanted to do, which was learn to play the guitar. I'm not a bad finger picker and I write songs. About half of them are political and the other half are about love, friendship and other various...Expand for more
things. I had a band in the late 90's called MIDLIFE CRISIS! We played mostly benefits and between sets of other bands and didn't try to make any money at all. It was fun.
Most of my spare time is spent working on political and human rights issues. I'm involved with a local Veterans for Peace chapter and I've organized a partnership with The Mad Housers, an Atlanta based organization which builds shelters for homeless people. There's quite a few homeless vets around here, as everywhere else, and we've been building huts for them.
I've also done a lot of volunteer work for Amnesty International and I was the coordinator for a very active Leonard Peltier Support Group for about 10 years. Leonard is a Native American political prisoner. Feb 6, 2009, will mark his 33rd year behind bars. I hope we can finally get him out of there after Bush leaves office.
I'm voting for Obama, by the way.
