Rene's Story
Life
I was born on a dark and stormy nightÂ
.
No, just kidding, I could noÂt resist. I felt my life did noÂt start until I met my husband in the 11th grade at John Muir. Like Sleeping Beauty, with a kiss I woke up. Woke up to fun, pretending to be grown up, taking things to far, living on the edge, growing up, becoming mature and enjoying one big, huge, scary adventure.
I married at 16, graduated, lived with my much older and over protective husband in Pasadena for several years. At 19 I had my one and only boy chick. When I was 22 my husband died and it was noÂt a surprise, he always felt he was going to die before he was 30 years old.
I learned to pay bills, raise my son, graduated from Pasadena City College with a Graphic Arts Degree. I worked freelance for several years doing paste-up for several publications. Putting up displays in records stores. Attending Record Release parties. Painted and illustrated as a hobby. Designed clothing for Michael Jackson, yes MJ, an interesting story in itÂs own right. I had grand visions of being the next Rembrandt or Bob Mackey, which ever came first.
But r...Expand for more
eality hit, I had a child to take care of, so I became responsible and oh so very grown up. I got a job at an insurance firm, taught myself computer skills in the old Dos days. I gained in computer application and techkie skills. I went from being a Communist to being a Christian Conservative. This led to my current existence as homeowner and working for the District AttorneyÂs office. Again a whole slew of stories can come out of spending your days in a court room.
In between, I gained an Arabian horse. I rode many trails in the forests and mountains of Altadena, Chino, Los Angeles, Riverside etc. I had fun with tons of cowboys, cowgirls, rodeos, campouts, ranches, bbqÂs and country music. I also went back to college earning credits toward a computer certificate.
My health has been relatively good. Nothing too serious, but due to horseback riding and car accidents injuries, I have had to limit my physical activity. I do have a fawn Chinese Pug that keeps me going.
So here I am, grown-up, happy, contented, focused, centered, way less confused and getting ready to enter the next stage; semi-retirement.
