Renee's Story
I found my passion in writing and in literature while attending UT at Martin where I got my BA. I now have a MA in Textual Studies (American Literature), a graduate certificate in African American Literature, and a MFA in Creative Writing. I also have earned my PhD in Literary and Cultural Studies from the University of Memphis, where I taught African American Literature, Literature, Children's Literature, and Freshman Composition. I am now a professor at East Georgia State College.

y me to read and write.
I met my husband when I moved to Jackson, TN in 1986. Only then, I didn't know he was going to be my husband. When I first met him, he made me laugh so we became friends rather quickly. We soon became good friends, even best friends. He endured all my boyfriend dramas patiently and kindly. The next thing I knew, we transitioned into dating when we were in our early 20s. He says he has loved me since we were kids (how sweet). In 1996, we married in Atlanta, GA one month after I returned home from serving an eighteen month mission in Portland, Oregon. He still makes me laugh.
I have three kids. They are good kids. My husband is wonderful. I'm living my dream. I am blessed to have a career that gives me the best of both worlds. I work limited days, off summers and evenings, and I am home when the children are. I feel extremely blessed.
