I moved back and forth from Allegan to Grand Rapids for many years. I finally have stayed in GR area for 27 years. I found in GR people who were motivated to become educated, improve everyday life, socialize indiscriminately. Allegan has many important qualities of a small town. Everybody knows you and even though they talk about you behind their backs, at least they care enough to do so. In smaller towns children and adults alike learn to treat everyone with some respect. I believe this is because you learn early that you are related some how, or may work for their brother someday. In larger towns some people never learned this and could care less how they treat you. I have learned everywhere and everything can and is good and bad. It's what you want at the time and what you make of it all. I love my life here in Comstock Park. I'm near the big city but out in the farmland. I am comfortable in my home and how my family is and has developed. My husband and I enjoy life even now with the empty-nest syndrome being a challenge.
