Rex Jones:

CLASS OF 1974
Raytown, MO

Rex's Story

Hey out there to all you former jocks, freaks, band clans, drama dogs, nerds, motor heads and anyone else I missed that added some diversity to our suburban wonder years experiences. For those of us still standing its hard to believe we've attained the 1/2 Century Club and are now fresh meat for AARP. Has the last 35 flown by as fast for you as me? My 74 Polaris is in bad need of some binder glue perhaps a bit more than my right knee needs replacing but you know the metaphor right? I have been able to keep up with a few of us but not enough so it was great to review profiles. After H.S. it was down to SMS with alot of you all. Had a blast and even managed to graduate. Went to work with Quaker Oats making sure the people of St. Louis had plenty of Oatmeal, Tender Chunks and Captain Crunch. Within a couple of years a computer profile matched me up with a job in Chicago so my young bride and I moved to Naperville Il. where we started a daily train ride into the Loop for work. After a couple of years my bride (Carol) decided to go back to school for her grad degree and I decided to get off mine and take advantage of Quaker's free tuitio...Expand for more
n and books and do the same. (Good thing one of us was motivated) Three years and 21 classes later I was a freshly minted Kellogg School, Northwestern MBA. We spent another 3 years in Chicago where our son Chris was born. After 9 years the 2 hour commute, the traffic, and the large numbers of people started to wear a bit thin. So I took a job at Pizza Hut HQ in Wichita. Our daughter Shawn was born in our first year in Wichita. The job was challenging and fun (well yes... it was still a job). About 5 years later some genius at Pepsico HQ thought we should all move to Dallas. Not what we wanted to do but we had about 30 days to sally forth. So I spent the next year and half commuting to Dallas on a weekly basis. During that time I decided to try and make a go of it on my own. Thirteen years later the shingle is still on the email and its worked out pretty well. Our two kids are at KSTATE and our son will graduate next year and hopes to be heading to Med School. Daughter is an education major. Miss the kids during the school year but also like the freedom of the empty nest. All the best and hope to see you sometime in the future!
