Linda's Story
Life
My husband Rex Lundquist and I live in Malad, Idaho now. My husband retired in 2003 from teaching High School.
I went to Torrance High my junior and senior year of high school. I only went 4 hours a day, and worked 8 hours. Most of my old freinds went to Narbonne High. But I did make several great friends at Torrance.
I had a car accident shortly after graduation and lost a lot of my high school memories. I can remember some things and if I concentrate for a while some things do come back. There is quite a blank spot though. It was really wierd for a while.
After graduation, I worked for a couple of years at Mr. Elliott's clothing store, and in Joseph Magnins. I married Rex Lundquist in 1967 and moved to Pico Rivera, for a few years, and I managed a clothing store by the name of Gladys Fowlers, then as an assistant for a Bank of America V.P. in Los Angeles. We lived in Santa Ana several years. I was lucky to stay home with our children for many years. We lived in Huntington Beach for about 18 years, before retiring in Idaho. We have three children, two boys age 38 & 35 and a girl age 31, and 11 1/2 grandchildren. The two boys and their families live in California and our daughter and her family lives in Utah. We feel very fortunate to have the family we have.
I didn't graduate from college, getting married at age 19, but I took several business classes off and on for my work. My husband was a high school teacher at Santa Fe High in Santa Fe Springs and also taught at Katella High in Anaheim.
I had a few different jobs before retiring. I was Director of Administration for two companies in Santa Ana for about six years, I was an Insurance Agent for about 10 years, even a business manager for KICK FM Radio for a year.
I love being a grandmother the most. My husband and I love Idaho. We live in the tiny town of Malad. We have to drive 50 or 60 miles to buy clothing, or do big shopping. We have a...Expand for more
good grocery store (1), but no large stores. We love hiking, camping (in a trailer--to old for the tents, fishing, and have kayaked most of the rivers in southern Idaho. There are many more for us to try. We are active in our church and in genealogy.
We don't get to California too often, but do visit our son's and their families a couple times a year, and for my husband to go surfing! He does miss the beach, but not the traffic. They like to visit us here in Idaho too.
I do remember I was the talk of the senior prom because my date was 29 years old. I always dated guys a bit older than myself. I didn't marry that guy though. But I did make the right choice when I married Rex. We have married for 40 years. I still can't keep up with him, and he will be 70 in December. His love of sports and surfing have kept him in better shape than myself.
I would love to hear from anyone who remembers me. I hope I can remember you! Please take no offense if I don't. Also anyone who went to school with my husband Rex Lundquist.
Rex attended BYU after high school with a break in college to serve a mission in Chile for 2-1/2 years. After returning to the USA, he finished college and started teaching high school at Santa Fe High School. He taugh spanish and PE, coached football, basketball, and even started a gymnastics prog. He retired from Katella High School in 2003. We built a home in Malad, Idaho. Rex has always been very active in all things outdoors. He rode motorcycles in many desert races, and bicycle distance races. He once rode from Azusa to Morongo Valley California. That was about 150+ miles. He has run many 5k's, 10k's, 1/2 marathons, and 9 full marathons. He has been on the US paddleboard team, and surfed for 55 years. He still surfs every chance he gets. He has hiked every mountain around our home and continues to kayak Idaho's rivers with me. At almost 70 he says he may have to slow down a little.
