Robert's Story
Santa Barbara High School provided a good foundation for me. I liked Santa Barbara and my time in high school. I felt safe there and I was glad to hang out with friends. Little did we know how much life was going to change for us after we graduated. We all scattered and I’m positive most of us didn’t stay in touch with each other. We were all too busy trying to scratch out a path for ourselves or make something of ourselves. Sometimes our plans didn’t turn out exactly how we wanted, but we learned from our experiences and moved on.
For me, I earned a couple of college degrees, which opened some doors. While working and supporting a young family I went back to school to earn higher degrees. I finally settled into a job I really enjoyed. I became a high schoo...Expand for more
l guidance counselor. I helped students get into college or a career, helped them get through their first romantic breakup, and steer clear of trouble, and anything to do with the ups and downs of life. It has been a very rewarding time. I’m sad to say it, but I never knew my counselor at Santa Barbara High School. I didn’t want that to happen to any students under my watch. I made sure they knew me and that we had a partnership in their success.
So now, after 40 years as an educator, I am retired and proud to have been a public servant for all those years.
Now I spend my time with family and friends and I enjoy playing music. As matter of fact, I am performing all over southern California. It has been a blast and it makes me feel young again.
