Rhonda's Story
Life
Grace and Peace to you and yours.
Since graduation of June 1984, I'm afraid to admit that I joined the Army. I joined because I wasn't ready to attend college just then. I was naive in thinking I would be stationed here in Chicago (boy, I was in for a shocker). I ended up in Fort Jackson, South Carolina for about 3 months (from July 1984 to October 1984). I was medically discharged because of a dislocated arm. Therefore, had to come home and get plenty of physical therapy. After that I attended Wilfred Academy Beauty School, became a licensed Cosmetologist in January of 1986. I wanted to do more than just hair, so, I decided to learn more about the medical field and pursued my education at Olive Harvey College and Chicago State University. I became a Certified MRT (med recs tech), pursued my employment with Northwestern Medical Faculty Foundation. Then, something happened. I was blessed to have a young child, my neice come into my life. I took that time to become a stay-at-home mommy for her (one of the best moments of my life) for about 2 years (1992-1994). I returned to the workforce in 1994 (you know, to put that MRT to use). Went to work for my Aunt's home health agency for about six years providing healthcare to the elderly. During this time another miracle presented itself in my life, I was blessed again with a bundle of joy this time of my own, which I consider to be my MOST and BIGGEST accomplishment yet, I gave birth to a beau...Expand for more
tiful baby boy. His name is Semaj. He is now six years old (or as he constantly reminds me "6 1/2 years old"). I thank God for choosing and allowing me to be his mother.
I again became a stay-at-home mom for a year.(I loved every day of it!!) I went back into the workforce and am now an Administrative Executive Legal Assistant at a workers' compensation small (40 people) law firm in the loop area. I love my job, it keeps me motivated, educated, and most importantly, employed. I am the assistant to two of the four partners at our firm. This position can be demanding but, because of my experience working with doctors and nurses, they are mere pussycats, and I wouldn't have it any othher way. I feel somewhat, now that I think about it, vain, as I am giving this biography.
But, oh, well.................
I was recently diagnosed with MS (multiple sclerosis) this year in February. Since that time, I have become an MS specialist (you know, reading everything....) I am at the moment, M.S.'d out!!!!!!!!!!!!
At times, I feel fatigued, but because of who I am (woman, daughter, mother, friend, servant and soon to be wife), I know this is just another phase of my life, another page in my book. My faith along with The MOST HIGH, Jesus, will heal my body as long as it is his will.
My journey is just beginning, I am not completed yet, therefore, I will have to pause..................... and hope to see and talk with you sooooooooonnnnnnnnnnnnnnn!
Peace.
