Rhonda's Story
Life
I moved back to Pinellas County after 9 years in Chicago. I'm now divorced with a 8 year old son, Quin. I'm a PT Dental Hygienist in Dunedin. I love being a single mom and I love my job.
I enjoy spending my time away from work with my son. He is in 2nd Grade and loves sports! (He's been playing ice hockey since he could walk.) We also try to get out on the golf course a time or two each week.
School
Moving from Chamberlain to Gaither was quite an adjustment. I was unable to do as many extras during high school as I had to work to support myself. My step-father was very ill and died during my junior year. My mother moved away to Germany so I finished my senior year alone. I wish it would have been more fun. I had a few friends but felt that I missed out on a lot because I was working so much or not having too many friends with whom to hang out. I do miss some people and would love to see how a few are doing these days.
College
I attended USF for a few semesters before deciding on Dental School at UF. However, working full-time got in the way. So, I went to SPC and then to Harper College in Illinois to get my degree in Dental Hygiene. Not a single regret! I love what I do! I...Expand for more
have schedule flexibility and money that make it so I only have to work part time but can work more if I want or need to. Plus, I'm still in the Dental field, which I have always loved!
Workplace
Being a Dental Hygienist is the most rewarding job for me. I love my patients and what I do for them. I can't even imagine doing anything else! I with a General Dental Practice 3-4 days a week. We have a fun group of dentists and employees. They treat all of the staff with respect and professionalism. I NEVER - or almost never - go home complaining about my job or where I work. Even in an office of so many women, we all get along as great friends. I rarely have a bad day! And, to think my first job in high school was at Dr. William Geyer's in Lutz...here I am 20+ years later doing what I love...STILL!
Military
In 1991-1993, I lived in Germany and worked as a civilian at a military recreation ski/golf resort in the Bavarian Alps for 2 1/2 years. It was wonderfully exciting and fun! I would do it again if I was young enough again to live without any sleep! It was fun to ski and travel all over Europe. I really took full advantage of the opportunity to "see the world". And, I'm not a bad skier!
