Ric's Story
34 years ago, I married well above my station. I found God, found Leigh Anne and have enjoyed life so very much. It gets better and better, more interesting, but definitely not any easier.
Through the winter of 2007, Leigh Anne and I read Yaconelli¿s, Messy Spirituality, Claiborne¿s Irresistible Revolution, 12 Marks of the New Monasticism and McKinney¿s Beautiful Mess. Along with those books, Isaiah chapter 58 kept re-introducing himself to us with the soul stirring verses in many ways through many surprising sources! The final comfort-shattering stroke from the Lord came when we began praying, ¿What would you have us do, if we really would do whatever you wanted?¿ And He answered.
"Go live amongst the poor."
In February of '08 we put a bid in on 14 Chester St and put our beautiful home in Georgia on the market. (where it still sits)
Last April we flew to Buffalo to spend time with our...Expand for more
daughter¿s family and drive across the state to visit my ailing Mom. On Tuesday of that very week my Mom passed away. We were blessed to be with her those last two days of her life.
Then the Lord delivered another blessing later that week as we interviewed with and were invited to join the Peace of the City ministry team in Buffalo. I was hired as the director of an afterschool program called HomeWork Club; Leigh Anne was hired as a part time reading tutor.
June 1, 2008 we completed 30 years of pastoral ministry (preaching)and loaded up a truck and headed north.
Since moving to Buffalo in June of '08, our roles have grown. I have added chaplain to my resume and Leigh Anne is also the executive director¿s ministry assistant. I also learned how to replace gas and water pipes and install replacement windows.
I continue to watercolor and Leigh Anne writes and is an amzing grandma and friend.
