Ricardo's Story

When I graduated High School, I was going to attend the local college and study Aerospace Engineering but finances made that impossible so I joined the U.S. Air Force. I had intended to just serve a single 4-year tour and return home and pursue my education utilizing my GI Bill, but the Air Force decided they wanted me to remain in my Missile Career Field and paid me a bonus to reup for another 4 years. This scenario happened two more times and by this time I had already served over 14 years and decided to finish off my career and get my Air Force retirement. During my stint in the Air Force, I managed to obtain my Associates Degree in Electrical & Mechanical Technology from the Air Force College in 1992 the same year I retired after returning from Germany from two 3-year tours, I retired with 21 years 8 months. I decided to use my GI Bill and enrolled in SUNY Tech in Marcy New York majoring in Electrical Engineering Technology but shortly after I started college, I decided to add a few more majors, Mechanical Engineering Technology, Photonics Engineering, Mathematics and when I finally used up my Vietnam GI funds, I had managed to get three Bachelor of Science degrees one in each major except Mathematics since I just didn’t have enough funds to complete that one so I took it and Physics as minors upon graduation. My first job after school was with a company building infrared cameras where I worked myself up from an assembler after two years on the floor they offered me the job of becoming their M...Expand for more
anufacturing Engineer for 6 years before they closed their doors. From this point I had to start another career so for my third start I took up Aviation Sheetmetal Repairs with a company working out of Griffiss AFB, Rome, NY I went in as an apprentice but in 6 months I was working as the Lead Mechanic on second shift supervising three other Leads and about 60 repairman. Now this job lasted 10 years until they went belly up and next a new company bought them out and I was rehired at my old job as a Master Sheetmetal Mechanic which continued until I decided to take retirement and I left in 2013, after working for them for 3 years; the next year that company went under as well. This whole time our family lived in Camden, NY with a nice 5-bedroom house situated on 57 wooded acres with a stream and two ponds. It was here that I got involved raising and caring for Monarch Butterflies which I still do today but now we live in Florida having moved here in 2021 and have our new home located in Edgewater, Florida. Got married the third time in 1984 which has lasted and is still going strong. We have 4 children, 14 grandchildren, and now 4 great-grandchildren soon to be 5 come this November. We also have two wonderful fur babies both raised as puppies Odin a full bred Siberian Husky now 8 years old and Star a kill shelter rescue Australian/Border Collie mix who is soon to be 5 years old. Throughout my life I have had some rough times but for the most part everything has been a great and adventurous journey.
