Rich's Story

Life After graduation, rather than shuffle off to some far away University, I opted for the commuter approach at Lawrence Tech where I would earn a degree in electrical engineering. School began to bore me and I needed an escape, ahh here's a solution I can go to work on co-op or something. I hired in at Ford Motor and began a temporary assignment in Windsor in 1989. I graduated from Lawrence Tech in 1991, in 1996 I finally got out of Windsor and came to work in the U.S. my taxes would be fouled up for years to come. I shook the dirt of Southgate from my shoes in 1995 and moved to the far away bustling metropolis of Dearborn. I spent a number of years taking vacations in Washington D.C. always visiting the Air and Space Museum, I went too many times and decided I had to learn how to fly an airplane. I got my license in 1995. I did a lot of similar assignments for Ford so in 1999 I decided to move on and make a change. I went to an automotive interiors plant in Detroit and managed the engineering department there for 2+ years. In 2002 I left the Metro Detroit area to manage a different automotive supplier's engineering department. After 3-years at Lear, I went back to my previous employer to ... you guessed it, manage their engineering department at a start-up plant in Lansing. In the middle of all that I met a wonderful woman, Colleen and we were married in 2003. In 2004, I finally ran out of excuses to go back to school and started work o...Expand for more
n an MBA via Indiana University's online program. I have finished my MBA and I now try to ponder what state with a growing economy to relocate to so that I can actually put it to use. In the past couple of years, I have become very active with the Knights of Colombus. In my council (#1139), I am the treasurer and in my assembly (#0511), I am both the scribe and commander. Within the KofC, there are 4 degrees to progress through, the first 3 at a council level and the 4th degree is at an assembly level. If you have ever noticed the KofC at a parade, the wear colored capes and feathered hats. As the commander I am in charge of the other men marching in the parade, issuing commands and keeping us from running into the backs of cars, marching bands or the little cars from the Shriners. School Oh jeez was I a social zilch in High School. I had many crushes but was always too shy to do anything about it. The ole' if I don't ask, they can't say no logic. I suppose a moderately ammusing story involved my old mail truck that I drove. I had lost the reverse gear in it and had to be extra careful about parking. One wet morning I had trouble getting it over the parking curb as I was doing my usual pull through. On this occassion, I had an audience of Dr. Fragale. He found it rather funny and already knew of my transmission problems. I had many friends amongst the teaching staff, I'd say Mr. Radcliffe had been one of the most influential for me.
