Rich's Story

School In retrospect, an education is what I missed the most!!! Memories are rich (no pun intended). Moving into an apartment in 12th grade (or 11th) provided a kid without discipline the opportunity to make more mistakes than most people make in a lifetime.(Coming to school stoned/otherwise impaired). Add driving over Diamond Mtn, camping, swimming from Hobo camp to Lake Almanor, inner tubing Williard Hill make up the best memories. Well, one more stands out. Bashful, backward, raised in a strict religous home where baseball games were taboo I was so shy. I made myself take the 8th grade dance lessons for the 'Ball'. Boys on one side, girls on the other... count out, then go find your number. Each day, I danced with one of the 'Popular Girls', and when I stepped on their toes,THEY would apologize...great memories...thanks Becky Simpson, Jill Marino, Debbie Farano and little Ann.... The teacher that inspired me the most? Mr Levada, English Teacher, for the shape I was in,his quiet encouragement and demeanor caused me to expect more from myself...Expand for more
. Memories abound... it was the best of times... if I had it do over, without hesitation... would do it over.... might revise a "few" things.... School may end... education... never. Since Susanville in '73'- Initially worked in the Pacific Northwest-logging. Became involved in construction in Seattle. Married at 20, widowed at 25 (car accident). Son survived presently a Corporal(2008 Sargeant) in the Marines. Worked construction, managed a Company in Seattle area, then one in Colorado Springs, Colo. A number of years back became involved in Catastrophe Insurance Adjusting, and since have worked from Washington D.C. to Florida, many mid-west states. Have seen firsthand the devastation from tornadoes and hurricanes, the total loss of family home and memorabilia... have seen 7 year old children looking for their belongings after their well built brick home was destroyed. Point? Possessions can be transitory, the quality of our relationships will ultimately determine the quality of our life. Have had a full life, and the best is still ahead...
