Richard's Story
Where to begin? Well, those who remember me from my high school days wouldn't recognize me now. I no longer wear the black leather jacket ALL THE TIME, or the high tops. I'm no longer the "wierd" quiet guy, but deep down I'm still the quiet, shy guy I've always been. I still don't care what other people think of me, and I doubt that will ever change. It's tempered, but still present.
So here's the short, short version of the past 18 years. Worked for 2 years after high school. Moved in with girlfriend. Gained a lot of weight (30 lbs of fat). Started college in 1992. Girlfriend and I part and go our separate ways a few months later. Start new job working graveyard shifts at a hotel near Stapleton Airport. 2 years later satrted a new job at another hotel, still working graveyard shifts. Lost the weight I gained and then some. Decided on the focus of my studies and started classes at CU at Denver in 1998 for a BS in Electrical Engineering that I acquired in 2000. The most arduous, exhausting, and limiting 2 years of my life. Attended the 10th c...Expand for more
lass reunion a few weeks before my graduation. Moved a few times and helped parents with house renovations that lasted a couple of years. Got a job at NAVSYS, and a month later found that I hated what I was doing for a living and left the industry. Family and friends convinced me to return to school and acquire my BFA after a 2 year break. Started classes at the Rocky Mountain College of Art & Design in 2002. Loved every minute of it. Graduated with honors in 2004. Started freelancing shortly after and landed a job as sole designer for a national magazine that lasted for a year and a half. Started new job at Ken's Reproductions as a graphic designer and am still going on strong. That brings everyone up to speed, briefly, on the past 18 years.
Like everyone else, I have regrets about my high school years, but they are very few. I would never want to go back and relive those years. I have fond memories of them, but being a teenager was tough, and I wouldn't want to go through that again. I was never the most popular guy, nor did I want to be.
