Richard's Story
Hi!
I guess I'll break this up into two parts - one for Walnut High School and one for the National Academy of Arts.
WALNUT HIGH SCHOOL.
After graduation from Walnut I went straight to the University of Illinois and never left Champaign-Urbana.Started teaching biology at Parkland College in Champaign in 1968. From 1993 - 2004 I was Chair of the Natural Sciences Department at Parkland but that all changed at the end of May 2004 when I retired (sort of). I then taught half-time at Parkland until spring 2008. Beginning July 1, 2008 I started a new part-time job with Parkland coordinating their dual credit program for high school juniors and seniors. As of May 1,...Expand for more
2013 I fully retired. My wife, Connie and I will celebrate our 43 wedding anniversary in June 2013. No kids but four cats. I get back to Walnut on a fairly regular basis. Mom still lives there.
Love to hear from anyone who was at Walnut High from 1959-1963.
NATIONAL ACADEMY OF THE ARTS
What I can't believe is that it's been 26 years since the school closed. Connie and I still have such fond memories of NAA. We still go to Hawaii almost every year. We still have the pool. I've lost touch with many of the "kids" but have found a few of you on Facebook.
Obviously, I'd also love to hear from any of you who attended the National Academy of Arts from 1983-87.
