Richard's Story
Life
In a nutshell: after a year at UCLA [way too preppy], I transferred to UC Santa Cruz, where I graduated with a BA in Linguistics. I moved to San Francisco in 1984, picked up a teaching credential in Social Studies, and started working at the Exploratorium, a hands-on science museum, where I worked for 15 years (11 of those in their library) before moving on to working for my union, SEIU Local 790. I have also served as the treasurer of the San Francisco chapter of the Labor Council for Latin American Advancement (SF/LCLAA) & as a co-chair of the San...Expand for more
Francisco chapter of Pride At Work (SF/PAW). I now work at the Berkeley Public Library, and serve on a Citizen's Action Committee for the Transbay Joint Powers Authority to help build a new transit terminal in SF [check out transbaycenter.org for more details].
I'm an avid railroad traveller, and a budding hi-fi enthusiast. My family, so far, consists mostly of siblings, nephews, and nieces. When I'm not at work, I can often be found at an art gallery trying to make sense of some new artist, or at a restaurant, trying to make sense of a new cuisine.
