Richard's Story
Hey Class of 80, how's life treating you? I'm having a BLAST! I'm still living in the Baltimore - Washington area so I've traded in my surf board for a snow board and my motorcycle for a cool green Prius. (the price of gas is pushing 3.31 a gallon now..) I'm happily married to my wife Theresa of 14 years, (2nd time is a charm) with two great boys, Tyler James Bond age 10 and Christian Michael Bond age 6. (Yea, I changed my last name back to my mom's maiden name around 15 years ago for personal reasons.) I coach or asst. coach on every sport they play, tackle football, lacrosse, roller hockey, wrestling and baseball. I keep these guys busy year round so they won't do the dumb crap I did. (hopefully not, anyway..) Not that I didn't have a great time back then but I'm lucky I didn't kill someone with my drinking and driving, not to mention all the brain cells I completly fried.. I'm sure I'll have to pay the piper someday, probably through the early onslaught of Alzheimers. Did I also mention my spelling sucks? I'm lost without spell check. I gave up smokes when they went to a dollar a pack and rarely drink. (NEVER in front of my kids) I really wish I would have cleaned my act up at an earlier stage of life. I left Orlando the summer before my senior year, in 1979. Moved back to MD with my folks, around the Balt.-Wash. area. Flunked out of computer school in 1983, a direct result of taking basic math and skipping alot of those classes anyway. Desperate to find direction and purpose in my life, I joined the Army in 1984 to see the world. I was Airborne, (paratrooper) so I was stationed at Ft Bragg, NC the whole three years. Never saw a damn thing but pine trees, I'm sure the guys in now wish they could say that.. Got out in 1987, still with no skills to speak of other than driving a truck and c...Expand for more
leaning. It seems the army was really big on keeping everything CLEAN, they had inspections for everything! So with no job, no money and recently divorced, I bought a typewriter (remember those?) and a vacume cleaner. I started Budget Commercial Cleaning Inc. in 1988. We did apt. turnover cleans at first, then moved on into new construction cleaning. In 1993 I bought two existing pressure wash companys to expand the business. At our peak a couple years ago we employed 180 people and have two offices, one right outside of D.C. and one on MD's eastern shore by the beaches. For two years we had the contract to clean Fedex field after Redskin games. Being a die hard Skins fan it was my dream job to say the least. We went in with about 90 people after the game and could knock out the whole stadium in about 7 hours. All the while I would stay on the club level, drink a few beers and watch ALL THE GAMES! Something I hadn't been able to do since before kids. Even saw Sprinstein and the Stones UP CLOSE when they played there. But alas, the Recession (yea we're really in one..) is killing the housing market and we're down to around 75 employees with more cuts to come. Oh well, what goes up must come down, I've got a house in Deland, Fl that I've tried to give away but the real estate market sucks right now. It's time to batton down the hatches and ride out the storm, things will get better! Last but not least, what the heck happened to Bev Young and our class reunions? She did a kick a-- job untill our 25th! I'd love to go to another one. Well, anyone who stumbles upon these ramblings, stay strong and enjoy life to the fullest! Someone else out there is always a little worse off, do what you can to make the world a better place...
