Richard's Story

Life I've had a pretty great life after Santiago. I started out at Santa Ana JC, didn't work out and found myself receiving an invitation from Uncle Sam to come and join in the fun in Viet Nam. I spent 4-1/2 years in the Navy, after boot camp and school aboard an ammunition ship sailing the seas of the Pacific and South China Sea. After returning to the U.S. in late 1973, I stayed in the Concord area, dated a great woman (Lynda) and got married in 1976. We had a beautiful daughter (Kristy) in 1977. We were married for 21 years and then decided it was time to divorce and go our separate ways. I worked at the Naval Weapons Station in Concord while giving college a second try and starting a officiating business. I umpired high school and college games as well as city and national recreation tournament softball games for the next 15+ years. Also during my college days, I became a high school coach in my pursuits of a teaching degree (Business Major with PE minor). I got my tecahing credential from UC Berkeley in 1979. However after five years of getting hired and released in the local school districts, I took an entry-level computer programming job. My career was now in motion and the family was going in positive directions. I've remained in the technology arena ever since. I went from junior programmer to systems analyst and then ended up as a manager of business analysts, system analysts and computer scientists. We had a great team for the next seven years and then in 1995 I decided to retire. I really just ended one chapter and started another chapter in my life. Lynda and I traveled a bit, then I got a call from Triadigm (consulting company in San Francisco), and they were looking for a Project Manager to lead a project at Pacific B...Expand for more
ell. I took the job and continue to work with Triadgim consulting with many Fortune 100-500 company's throughout the Bay Area. The year 1997 brought an end to my marriage and the beginning of my racing hobby, now passion. In 2000, I decided to really see if I wanted to become more involved with racing, and as a result started my reseach and analysis to determine how much time and/or money I could put forth in racing. By 2002, I became a partial sponsor for a winged dirt sprint car and in 2003, I became an owner of two pavement sprint cars. Kristy (daughter) got married in 2001 to Mike, followed by a grandson (Matthew) in 2002 and granddaughter (Madison) in 2004. Two great little ones to keep me (Papa) going and happy. New pictures coming soon. Through all this, my parents (Bill & Jean) and brother (Dennis) live in Rohnert Park (approx. 50 miles north of San Francisco on Highway 101) and we get together on a regular basis (family visits and race track overnighters). Now I'm in the year 2004, having a blast with racing and life just gets better. I meet Barbara and we start to date and have a lot of fun. I propose and we are getting married this May. Barbara has brought new meaning to my (our) lives and we are preparing for one great ride into our senior years. Barbara has three great children, Scott (28), David (24), and Jenice (21). The family has grown and very much for the better. Family dinners with so many are new to me and I'm still adjusting, but it's definitely for the better. Well, that's it for now. Wedding pictures and race updates will be coming later in the year. Thanks for stopping by and reading about my life to date. If you're in the Bay Area, feel free to contact me and talk about old times, new times and any times.
