Richard's Story

After graduating from Cantwell in 1965, I attended East L.A. College where I majored in Construction Engineering. Afterwards I was employed at a major Architectural firm in downtown Los Angeles where I began my career in engineering. I next studied petrochemical piping design in evening classes which open the doors for me at Parsons Engineering Company in downtown Los Angeles. My career at Parsons lasted 40 years moving from Engineering design to Project Engineer and finally to Project Management. I was blessed with a career which included worldwide Petrochemical facility, Infrastructure facility, Procurement and Construction Management. I next moved to Worley Parsons where I finally retired after seven years from the engineering profession. The engineering profession was challenging and gratifying because of the many different types of projects and the opportunity to travel throughout our county and live abroad. While I was attending college I was also working part-time where I met my future wife, Lucy. We dated for several years and decided to get married in 1970. We are blessed with four ...Expand for more
wonderful children (one daughter and three sons) and two grandchildren. We were able to raise our children in the city of La Habra, CA where we still reside. While raising a family and while working I became involved with a church in Walnut. After several years of serving in various position, the church sent me out to our city in La Habra to plant a church. The role of pastor was very gratifying and rewarding, however after several seasons the Lord put in my heart to close the church doors. The role as a pastor was truly a blessing in my life that I will keep close to my heart and never forget. We are now both retired and been married for over 50 years. This new season in our lives has been truly a blessing. We enjoy traveling, especially river boat cruises but we’ve also been on coach trips and regular cruises. We’ve been to Spain, Turkey, Greece, Belgium, Netherlands, France, Germany and Switzerland, and are looking at future trips in 2022. God has truly been a blessing in Lucy and my life and we are looking forward to more grandchildren and spending time together with our wonderful family.
