Richard's Story
Life
After leaving New Mexico Tech. in 1969, I worked as an Exploration Geophysicist for Pan American Petroleum Corp. in Fort Worth,TX. for two years. My wife, Nancy(Nancy Page), & I with our infant son moved to Albuquerque, New Mexico in 1971.
Things really started to change in our lives at this time. Not only did we decide to go into business for ourselves while in Albuquerque, but we were introduced to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day-Saints by Linda Johnson, wife of Micky(Michael C.)Johnson, friends from Tech., and we became members of the church in Feburary of 1972.
We moved to Grand Junction, CO in Feburary of 1972 to start our new business which we owned until 1985 when we sold it to a good friend that would carry on the traditions that we established with our business. Those years involved hard work, but it payed off. The business provided a good living for us, as well as provided a lot of experience in life.
I was active in the community as a member of the Lion's Club, as a representitive of the North Avenue businessman's association to the local governments, as a substitute teacher in the school district, as the Chairman of the Save The Barn Commitee(to determine if a local landmark of historical value should be saved), as the vice-president of the Western Colorado Astronomical...Expand for more
Club and was involved with charitable organizations in Western Colorado. At one point I was asked to run for the District 55 Colorado State Representative seat, but declined the opportunity as I would have had to live in the Denver area(NO THANKS).
During the years we owned our business we added two daughters and an additional son to our family. Our stay in Western Colorado has been wonderful:If you like the outdoors, Grand Junction, CO is the place to be.
We have recently moved into a new home in a local
subdivision which has been a change for us as we lived on acreage out in the country surrounded by fields until last year.
Our religion has been a tremendous force in our life. There have been times when we were very unsure of what the future might hold in store for us, but because of our religious faith and it's principals we were able to make decisions that were the best for us.
Nancy and I are celebrating our 39th wedding anniversary in January of 2007. Our four children are good and honest people, which is the most a parent could ask for, and at this point have provided 11 grandchildren for us to spoil.
Both Nancy and I look back on our time at New Mexico Tech. with very fond memories and wish all of our old friends at Tech. a sucessful and happy life.
