Richard's Story
Life
Hello curious classmates,
I have lived in northern California since January 1973 and so a bit out of touch with Texas in general and especially former McHi alum. Here's my life since, highly condensed and edited to enhance and mythologize.
Degree in journalism from UT Austin, joining the esteemed ranks of Cronkite and Moyers without the subsequent fame or respect. Wandered the East coast in futile but interesting attempts at employment, landing in a commune in Boston. Hitchhiked to Berkeley to join acquaintances, finding my niche in a grassroots environmental group. Subsequent work at Lawrence Berkeley Ntl Lab, masters from UC Berkeley and work in energy, its conservation. Followed love of my life (Nancy) to Sacramento where...Expand for more
I began a long employment with the local electric utility, currently helping to plan power needs. Married more than 25 years to same lovely and intelligent woman, with two sons as late arrivals: Diego Joaquin, an artistic phenom, who is now in college in San Francisco, and Adan De la Rosa, very funny and smart, making his way through high school.
My four brothers remain in Texas at scattered locales, but my parents are long gone, sadly. Free time involves family travel and camping throughout the West.
Politics remains positively fixed on the left-side and my wife and I have avoided arrest while participating in a number of activist organizations over the years, including an anti-Contra stint in Nicaragua.
