Richard's Story
Life
I graduated in 1971. I got married to Renee' Robinson in 1976. This lasted about 6 years, and ended with one son Christopher, who was born in 1981, and divorce in 1982. In 1986 I married a wonderful woman Karen Ogle. We moved to Cashmere, WA in 1988 and remain here. We have 4 kids, 3 boys and 1 girl. I retired April 30, 2020 amid the covid virus, no party, no fanfare, most people working from home, but not me! But a bunch of friends had signs all along the last half mile of road leading up to my home. It was great. I now have 2 grandsons and one granddaughter. I returned to work as a contractor for a few months to help along a software/data migration prep project we had just gotten started when I retired. On November 15, 2017 I had a deer jump out in front of me at 5:30am on Hwy 2, heading for work. Totaled the bike, broke my pelvis, and tore my ACL. Had some cancer discovered in August 29, 2019, I had it removed and went through chemo therapy, chemo with radiation, and some followup radiation. a year of more chemo infusions, Now I'm on a different treatment. I have not been evaluated yet to see how it's going. I got another bike, but I had to promise not to ride in the dark anymore. A small price to pay to continue riding. I'm a cowboy, on a steel horse I ride......
Workplace
After graduating from Seattle Community College, I got a job drafting for a small company. About 2 years later I landed a job drafting for Boeing, working at the Everett plant on the new 767 and doing some work on the 747 stretched upper deck version. I was here for about 5 years. As the 767 production line settled into a steady rate I was transfered to the Military division, working near Boeing field in Seattle. I got to work on a couple of very cool planes, still doing drafting. In 1988 I got a job drafting at Chelan County Public Utility District. I have been here for 17 years now. I am not drafting anymore exactly, but am doing our Geographic Information System, GIS. We use the Arc products from ESRI. Basically I build and maintain a network model of our electric power system.
