Richard's Story
Those who knew me in high school would have figured how I would be after school. I filled that bill until I reached 27. Worked at physical jobs like truck driver, plumber and construction. Very outdoors type, camping canoing, snow skiing. Started community college at 27. Racked up over 9 full time years at higher education since. I just finished getting my bacheors in electrical engineering from UNCC this year, 53 years old, about time. I fix anything, Plumbing, welding, machining, electrical, electronics, air conditioning, heating, diesals, cars, trucks, farm equipment, robotics. I just tinker with anything. I figure if someone can build it, I can repair it. Own a 17 acre farm in Icard. Have had up to 15 cows at a time. Raised my own feed corn, had a Allis Chamber combine for 5 years. Have all the hay equipment. Old stuff, but I make it work. Wanted my kids to grow up on a farm. They got to watch as dad help cows birth, feed new borns and such. ass IV-V white water rivers in NC, Tenn area. A five mile ass buster, we love it. One of the best addenaline rushs ever coming down those class V rapids. Trout waters, small mouth bass, channel catfish, brim there for the catching. The rivers 150 feet in front of the cabin, just throw in a line. To keep up with the kids, I go to the gym 3 times a week to fight off old age. Run five miles every other day, still swim alot and bick ride. My kids, a 13 year old girl Alexis never meet a stranger, 16 year old Kira quite, knock out A+ student, and Robert at 19 is his daddy made over. I try to show them how to grab for the most in life. My wife Tammy is 8 years younger than me, she runs things!! She is beautiful. She has shown a lot of patients with me. The whole crowd and my brother-in-laws bunch are into the kayak thing. He and I are the only ones running the big waters at this time. Been with CommScope of Catawba for 20 years as and electronics/maintenance technician. I've been on night shift the whole time. Maybe when things pickup, with the engineering degree, I can finally get a day shift job.
