Richard's Story
I attended Briar Cliff College after high school, followed by Palmer College of Chiropractic in Davenport,Ia. Married Jeannie Torgerson (class of 72) in Nov.74. and following graduation we decided to stay in Iowa. Basically, we just picked a spot. It happened to be Mason City. We have lived here since 1976. I have been in private practice for 34 years. Jeanne and I have three children and five grandchildren. David our oldest has been in practice with me the last five years. I have been a life long student. And I am still learning. I earned a board certification in orthopedics in 85, certified in acupunture, occupational health, board certified in clinical nutrition in 08. Certified in Health Care Quality Management, Served on the Iowa Chiropractic Society board for ten years and served as its' president in 2002/03. I just completed a two year term for the Iowa Department of Health advisory board on Medical Home. On the lighter side, I love to golf, fish, trap shoot, and do bullseye pistol. When I was 50, I had a mid-life crisis and decided to get my pilots license. Since then, I earned my instrument rating and my commercial rating. When I fly, I'm like a kid on a skateboard. Now I am working on my certification as a flight instructor. (something to do when I semi-retire). I would love to teach...Expand for more
people how to fly. Jeanne and I fly up to Alexandria, Mn. frequently. We have a place up there. It is our retreat. Our daughter Emily lives in Colorado as a stay home mom and our youngest son John lives in Chicago. He has his masters in vocal performance, auditions for Broadway musicals and works at Northwestern in Chicago.I love spending time with my grandkids. Jeanne and I were fundamental in starting a new church in Mason City, It is almost seven years old now and the congregation just bought a building. I am also on the board for Youth For Christ in our community. I enjoy working for the kids in our community. That's about it. As I get older I would like to begin traveling lighter, but I'm not ready to give up the "stuff" yet. Live each day as if it were your last. The years go by way to fast. Tell the people in your life that you love them. Bye for now. Rick
09/19/2014, It's been three years since I last added a list to my life's activities. I am currently a CFII, instrument flight instructor as a hobby and continue to work in Mason City as a Chiropractor. Next year I will be President of the Iowa Chiropractic Society. Second time in thirteen years. I still love to fish, trap shoot, and golf. Maybe semi-retire in four years. My oldest son David is also working the practice. :)
