Richard's Story
Life
Lived in Owendale, Michigan in Michigan's Thumb from 1946 through 1958; this is where my roots really are, as I grew up with these folks, and this is also where most of my family relatives live. Then, sophomore at Garden City High (Garden City, Mi), junior at Bentley High (Livonia, Mi), and graduated from Lowrey High (Dearborn, Mi).
Tried to enlist in the Air Force right out of school, but was rejected (4F) due to a congenital heart murmur. Instead, got a two year education in electronics.
- 35 years in Information Technology, always on the "leading edge"; mostly in technical support;
- Lived in Australia and New Zealand 1981, 1982 on a one year substitute contract, filling in for local staff while they retrained on new architecture.
- A gearhead with a very nice 1971 Chevelle (I have pictures), but growing up near the Motown, no big surprise. Also adept at switching between TV channels showing multiple auto races. - Two adult children, son Eric born 1962, daughter Kim born 1964 - Still devoted to good old Rock and Roll! Now RETIRED (YEAY!),living in Malabar, Florida. Spent the last 20 years in Northwest Washington State. In early February of year 2006, we completed the last of the finish work on the Washington State house, rented it in less than a week, and finally moved to Florida, where Wife Dawn and I bought 1..5 acres in Malabar from her uncle. construction in October 2006, and finally moved into it in late April 2007. Then, I had to have open heart surgery in early May, to replace my congenitally bad aortic valve, which started to act up. Surgery went well, and I am slowly regaining my stamina, the last thing to get back to normal. Now back into swing and salsa dancing, and cruising in the Chevelle with the Oldies playing.
Since Classmates does not allow freeform entries in the Pet Peeve category, I shall put it here: my biggest pet peeves are:
1. mediocrity, and
2. dishonesty.
Bad drivers pale in comparison to these two, but overlap somewhat.
Classmates also doesn't have a category for Hot Rod or Muscle Car in the type of car I drive, but I have previously described my '71 Chevelle toy. It's been well received here in Florida, and is a joy to cruise in with the Oldies going.
In 1984, had a delightful vacation in the South Pacific, in Tahiti, Moorea, Bora Bora, and then Raratonga in the Cook Islands.. Three weeks well spent!
In 2015, we visited Europe for two months, to Barcelona, Spain, Toulouse/Pomas/Nice/Lyon/Carcassone/Montpelier in France, Venice/Bologna/Lake Cuomo/Tuscany in Italy; visited the Ducati factory and Museum in Bologna, and the Moto Guzzi museum in Lake Cuomo. Saw Bern, Switzerland, stayed in Budapest, Hungary. All in the spring when the weather was wonderful and all was in full bloom.
