Richard's Story

Not: Due to a bug in Classmate.com I am able to update this but am not able to reply to mail. So if you wish to contact me you need to use lawrencrj at juno dot com or lawrencrj on facebook or Skype (I prefer Skype.) Biography: Started out as a skilled worker - carpenter, electrician, plumber etc. to work my way through college. Got a teaching certificate in Secondary Math and Science and taught in public school in New York State for 12 years. Got married early in my teaching career and helped my wife go to college at Courtland for Health Education. Helped take care of our baby while she went to college Retired from teaching and went back to college for computer science while my wife worked as a Health teacher. Built a house in Plattsburgh region with help from my father and friends. Got a job as a systems analyst at Stated Education Department in Albany and commuted home weekends for 15 years. Rented a small house there and commuted to work on a bike in warmer months. Retireed from SED in 1992 and was self employed as a computer consultant and programmer and also as a literacy and ESL volunteer until 1997. When my wife retired we purchased a house in Cape Coral, FL where we spend winters. House is shared with Sue's brother and mother who live there all year except for Summers. Since 1970 we have spent our Summers at her brother's cottage on Rushford Lake in western New York State. Our main social activity throughout or marriage has been western square and round dancing. We also are into ball room dancing and belong to the Dine and Dance club of Fort Myers. For about 10 years we have been taking lessons in Ball Room dancing. Our main outdoor activity is hiking and riding our hydrobikes (a recent passtime on the canals of Cape Coral and on Rushford Lake). We also are avid swimmers and have a lap lane in our Florida home. A big part of our life is our dog. We have had three Collies and now own a seven year old Golden Retriever and we walk about an hour a day with him on nearby trails and at McComb State Park when the park is closed to campers. Despite my having a knee replacement in 2001 and my wife's suffering an injury in a car accident caused by a drunk driver in 2003 from which she has chronic pain, we are quite healthy. We have an eliptical machine in Plattsburgh and in Cape Coral. We usually din...Expand for more
e out one evening per week sometimes with friends but usually by ourselves. In Florida we meet a social group for breakfast every Monday morning and we have outings with this same group. I have a musical keyboard which I enjoy and I play harmonica in the Fort Myers Harmonica Band during the winter. I also enjoy digital photography and videography. Sue's Mom has Alzheimers disease and Sue is her caretaker when we at the cottage in the summer and when we are down in Cape Coral. Her brother looks after their Mom during the Autumn before we go South. Sue likes to read novels and I spend a lot of time working or playing with my computer and musical keyboard. In the evenning we watch Jeapardy and comediies and Sue watches ER and Grey's anatomy while I watch documentaries on a separate TV. When we are in Plattsburgh Susan is involved with Emergency Medicine, an activity she has participated in for about 25 years. She is a certified EMT instructor. Twice per year we fly to California to visit my Son, David, our Daughter in law, Sally, and two grandsons, Kentaro and Josshiro who live in the region of San Jose. David has his doctorate in aerospace engineering from Stanford and Sally has a private practice as a councilor. Life is good. but we have had some hard times. YOu have to take the bad with the good. Checkout my webpage at webpages.charter.net/lawrencrj. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ My webpage has not been updated in a year but will be soon. Joshiro is no longer a baby. He is four now and in pre-K and Kehan is 7 and just started first grade. I had to have a stent placed in one of the vessels servicing my heart and am taking Plavix and doing daily aerobic excercise. I have developed arthritus in my fingers and my guitar playing has suffered as a consquence. We now fly to and from Florida rather than drive and we have a third car we keep down there. Rocky gets shipped to an fro by U-Ship trucking. Sue has an electrical stimulator implatned in her back now and it helps reduce the pain she recieved from her accident. We build an addition to the cottage on Rushford Lake and now Dave and his family stay there with us during the month of July. Dave has built an in-law suite onto his place that we occupy when we visit him. I am currently spending most of my free time learning Spanish. Current update 01/03/2008
