Richard's Story
In the context of my days in Rego Park and Forest Hills Queens New York City, here are some of the things I was interested in or even participated in back then. Also, a very brief description of what I'm into now.
Richard's schools include PS 175 Annadale and PS 157 Stephen A Halsey (both Rego Park days) as well as Forest Hills High School (Forest Hills where else). Richard later attended Institute of Aerial Survey and Earth Sciences (Enschede, The Netherlands (Holland), Photogrammetric Engineering) , University of Wyoming (Transferred to University of Hawaii with 3.4 GPA, Mathematics, Laramie Wyoming USA) , University of Hawaii at Manoa (Oahu, Hawaii USA, Computer Science) . Richard works(ed) at Bank Andara, International Rice Research Institute, ACDI VOCA's Amarta II.
Sports include Little League Baseball sponsored by Booth Hardware (back then I played 2nd base and shortstop with stature like Freddie Patek but a much better hitter) which won the Pacific Coast Division (still living in Rego Park then - and Booth Hardware had a picture of me in a baseball pose in their store after we won the division), 2nd place in table tennis at Institute of Aerial Survey and Earth Sciences (Holland), member of University of Wyoming Soccer team (Laramie), transferred to University of Hawaii and was member of University of Hawaii Soccer Team (island of Oahu). Nowadays, playing soccer and basketball with my kids while still being competitive in tennis (doubles mind you).
New York sports teams supported initially NY Yankees (Mickey Mantle, Roger Maris, Whitey Ford) then later NY Mets (Tom Seaver, Jerry Koosman, Dwight Gooden, Darryl Strawberry, Nolan Ryan), initially NY Giants (too young to see Frank Gifford and Y.A Tittle play but saw Fran Tarkenton, Ron Johnson, Spider Lockhart, Lawrence Taylor) then later NY Jets (Joe Namath, Don Maynard, George Sauer and moving forward Joe Klecko, Marty Lyons, Mark Gastineau, Abdul Salaam), NY Knicks (Willis Reed, Dave DeBusschere, Bill Bradley, Walt Frazier, Dick Barnett), and NY Rangers (Ed Giacomin, Jean Ratelle, Rod Gilbert, Walt Tkaczuk, Mike Richter, Adam Graves, Mark Messier, Brian Leetch). Well it's a mixed bag of very early days of my stay in New York and cannot be seen as a normal progression from past to pre-present because I don't remember the exact periods only those that to me had the most impact. Probably left many great names out so my apologies. Still following all the New York teams.
Music Richard likes includes Doobie Brothers, T...Expand for more
he Eagles, Earth Wind and Fire, Chicago, CCR, Blood Sweat and Tears, Santana, Carole King, James Taylor, Boz Scaggs, Yes, The Beatles, The Bee Gees, The Commodores, Diana Ross, Barbra Streisand, Kenny Loggins, Mariah Carey, Rascal Flatts, Maroon 5, Coldplay and a lot more contemporary ones as well. Since music is in our DNA, my daughter plays the guitar (and also is a super sketch artist), my son plays the drums and the guitar and I play the guitar and am giving it a go on the bass guitar and the keyboard.
Movies Richard likes include the oldies found on WOR TV home of the million dollar movies (the ones I list may not be million dollar movies but ones I liked) of early 1950s and 1960s like Gone With The Wind, A Streetcar Named Desire, Rebel Without A Cause, Some Like It Hot, Singin' In The Rain, The Wizard Of Oz, White Christmas and later in theaters West SIde Story (1st showing too young to understand but snuck into Midway Theater with friends and sat in the aisle cuz super crowded), Animal House, The Graduate, Dances with Wolves, Out of Africa and tons more including the latest movies.
TV shows Richard likes include those tv shows before my time since in those days in New York I remember WNEW TV that played action tv series, western series and old sitcoms of the 1950s and 1960s like the The Honeymooners (Jackie Gleason), I Love Lucy (Lucille Ball and Desi Arnaz), Leave It To Beaver (Jerry Mathers), My Three Sons (Fred MacMurray) also old tv actions series like Hawaiian Eye (Anthony Eisley), 77 Sunset Strip (Efrem Zimablist Jr), Surfside 6 (Troy Donahue), Bourbon Street Beat (Andrew Duggan), The Untouchables (Robert Stack), Alfred Hitchcock Presents (who else), lest we forget the western tv series like Bonanza, Maverick, Have Gun - Will Travel, and in later years (1980s) the ground breaking camera moving action tv hit Hill Street Blues (Daniel J Travanti and many more), and the 1990s with Law & Order (Sam Waterston and others) and so so many more. Of course the new ones are just as entertaining.
One of Richard's favorite quotes is:""IT DON'T MEAN A THING IF IT AIN'T GOT THAT SWING'"".
