Richard's Story
Bio: Born in Sheridan, Wyoming (as were both of my parents), I was the youngest (born in 1947) of 6 kids. DO NOT tell any of my siblings that I admit this, but I was a "bit" spoiled. Parochial school (Holy Name) for 8 years; then to Sheridan High. With enough credits I was able to skip my senior year, finishing in 1964 instead of with my "real" class of 1965. I enlisted in the Air Force in late '64.
The Air Force was good for me. I got into a very enjoyable career field, purchasing & contracting, and had some good assignments. I served from '64 to '68, then had a break in service of 2 years, then active duty again from '70-76. My prime duty assignments were: '65-67 Elmendorf AFB, Alaska; '67-68 Keesler AFB, Mississippi;'68-70 break in service back in Sheridan going to Sheridan College; '70-72 at Hurlburt Field, Florida; '72-74 Andersen AFB, Guam; then '74-76 finishing at Kincheloe AFB, Michigan.
Wanting to return to Wyoming, I got out of the A.F. in 1976 and got a federal civil service job in Casper, Wyoming in January 1977. Two years later, I transferred to another federal job in Laramie, Wyo, where I still reside. In 1989, my position was tra...Expand for more
nsferred to a new duty station in West Virginia. Choosing to stay in Laramie, Wyoming, I then quit the federal service. I got licensed to sell real estate and have been doing so ever since, still in Laramie.
I was married for about 5 years ('70-75) to the former Christine Schwabauer. She had two daughters by a former marriage. We had no children together. The former Peggy Garner and I were married about 15 years ('83-98). She had 2 sons by a previous marriage and we had one daughter together. By FAR the biggest sadness in my life is that my daughter, Amy, and I are estranged and have had no contact since her mother's and my divorce.
Other than the estrangement, my life is quite good. My faith is very important to me, but my denominational tie (Roman Catholic) is not. I am very ecumenical, even as to other religions.
As of March 2009, I can say that I am retired. My one-man real estate business is not closing, but I have scaled it back now that I am getting a pension based on my former government employment. This year, more than ever before, I have taken an interest in reconnecting with old classmates and other former friends.
