Rick's Story
I currently live in Tampa with my wife Kathy (of almost 25 years). My son Nick is almost 31, is married and lives in Edina MN. Kathy and I spend a lot of time traveling and boating when not working. We love year-round summer, and no, we don¿t miss the seasons (it is much more enjoyable to visit the seasons then live through them). I haven¿t shoveled snow or racked leaves for over 10 years and I don¿t miss it one bit!! Yes, it is hot in the summer but I would rather need air conditioning than heat, long underwear and a snow shovel. Ok, I¿ll stop rubbing it in since I know for those who still live in the north it has been a miserable winter.
My path to Tampa was interesting (and somewhat complicated). After graduating from college (Wisconsin Class of 1982), I moved to Minneapolis. I commuted to Chicago on...Expand for more
weekends for 3 years to get my MBA in Finance from the University of Chicago (Class of 1992). The MBA helped me land a position with Ernst & Young (E&Y) in their consulting practice. A major consulting project for MetLife (while at E&Y) led me to NY in 1994 and then Tampa in 1997. E&Y convinced me to transfer to their NY office with the promise of a Partnership so I maintained an apartment in NY and a house in Tampa. I spent most of 1998 to 2003 traveling with E&Y, living weekdays in cities like Boston, NY, and Des Moines and then returning to Tampa on weekends. In 2003, fed up with the travel, I got a position in MetLife¿s financial operations center in Tampa. Two years ago, I took a new position with MetLife and now spend 50% of my time in NY. Kathy and I love NY so we split our time between NY and Tampa.
