Richard's Story

My Life (as of 10 Jan 09) I was born and raised in Southwest Detroit, where they say "The Weak Are Eaten". In 1967, shortly after the '67 Detroit Riots, we relocated to Utica, Michigan. While living in Detriot I kinda hung out with Regan Ryan, Kent Demattio, Scott Fergusson, Larry Pilon, Jimmy Pond, Robbie Abraham, Jimmy Loftus(Hillbilly), Jimmy & Joey Christie and a few others. The crushes I have had then were for... Judy Lucas, Theresa Jones, Nancy McKee, Debora Perry and many more. In Utica, my friends were (still are?) Ken Barber, Steve Fuchs, Phil Zeigel, Mike Breen, Dave Eseombre, Harold Kelly, Vince & Jerry Alvaro, Dave Nall, Scott Moran, George Simon, Annette DiVita, Pat McGuire, Debbie Goff, Cindy Caltrider, Richie & Wanda Reese, Michelle Fisher, Maureen Koop, Kathy Mahan, Linda Shultz, Blanch Prior, Mike Pitvouric, Dave Pearsal, Rick Zappella, Gary Miexner, Ron & Dave Bommarito, Scott Kennedy, Mark Koontz, Scott Hodge, Greg Songer, Randy Palmer, Nick Ciccerelli, Alfred & Fred LaClair, Joe McRoberts, Nick Pilon, Greg Pollack, Ray Keppler, Jage Beauchott, John Sendrow, Fred Gunther, Steve Parks, Gerry Martin, John, Dale/Pat/Ted Grabski and a few more. Although I had quite a few GF's in my school days (whom I won't mention to respect their privacy) most of them were out of Roseville. I didn't participate in school "jock" sports, but I did enjoy the Ski Club beginning with Shelby Jr. High through to Utica High. I remember most of you folks and especially the gals (MAN, I had a LOT of secret crushes, ask me who and I'll tell you). To summarize, as an Inner-City Greaser/Rocker/Hippy, I always felt out of place in Suburbia, even though many of you tried to change this. With this I thank you, my Classmates, for always treating this New Guy as an equal and making me feel welcome in my new world. We are (and will always be) a great group of people with warm hearts, open minds and a smile for all. You make me proud to have included me as one of many of you ALL in what will be always known as The GREAT Class of 1972, Utica High. Through the many years and many miles I lost track of all but one classmate, Vince Alvaro. For those of you that remember him, here's what he's been up to thru the years. Vince retired from Ford Utica Trim (where our parents put us BOTH to work right out of school, in July 1972) In 2002, Vince did 30 & out (retired). With many years of industrial sewing experience within him, prior to his retirement he taught himself the skill and business of marine canvas and upholstery. He later added vinyl sign graphics. Even though he also worked at Ford, his business grew. By the time he finally retired for Ford, he continued his business out of his home full-time and is still at it today. In 2006, Vince expressed an interest to enter into my career field of vehicle seating engineering and development. I was the Engineering Manager with Recaro Seating at that time. Knowing him as well as I do, and seeing his determination, I hired him. With very little training and in no time at all, he became a key team member within my design group. Although I have since moved on, and re-invented my career into the Business/VIP Jet Aviation Industry, Vince is still there and he continues to p...Expand for more
rove himself as a great added value to the Recaro Engineering and Development Center in Auburn Hills. As you may have already guessed by now, I am very proud of him, as I am sure you are too. He has been married for ump-teen years to Maria, a wonderful and sweet woman. They have two unbelievably handsome, smart and talented sons, Vinny and Anthony, they're 23 and 20, respectively. Vince has also been a devout Born-Again Christian for as long as I can remember, yet far from the holy roller type. If anyone is interested in contacting Vince, or just want to say hello, drop me a line and I would be very happy to pass your message on to him. Now, as for me; Same as Vince, in July 1972 I went to work at Ford's Utica Trim as an industrial sewing machine opperator. Unlike Vince, I only lasted seven years when I quit to "find myself". Having only the skills of sewing and familiarity in textiles, I had many upholstery-type jobs which eventually led me into automotive seat cover design, engineering and engineering management. Since the early 80's my automotive engineering career has led me to live and work in many places around the world. I have lived in places and worked for firms such as: in Munich, Germany for BMW, in Bangkok, Thailand for General Motors, in Coventry, England for Lear Corporation, in Krems, Austria for Lear Corporation, in Piedras Negras, Mexico for Findlay Industries, in Los Angeles, California for Pacific Solar, in Las Vegas, Nevada for Hughes Aircraft, in Warren, Michigan for General Motors, in Turin (Torino), Italy for Lear/Fiat, in Helsinki, Finland for Lear/SAAB, in London, England for BMW/Rover, in Windsor, Ontario Canada for General Motors, in Chicago, Illinois for Freedman Seating Corporation, in Findlay, Ohio for Findlay Industries, in Monroe, Michigan for Delta/Mazda, in Prague, Czech Republic for BMW, in Utica, Michigan for Ford Motor Company and in Wilmington, Delaware for Lear Corporation. I could add more, but I am growing weary typing it all. In 2006 the decline of the automotive industry led me to re-invent my career into aviation. I am now living and working in Miami, Florida as an Aerospace Manufacturing Enginer for a Business/Luxury/VIP Jet Aerospace Firm. Hola! Somewhere within all of this I was in the U.S. Navy too. My specialty was in aircraft airframes as an AMS2 (Aviation Metal Smith, Second Class Petty Officer). I was assigned to the Attack Squadron, VA-105 which flew the A7-E Coursair, home based at Cecil Field, Florida (Jacksonville). We were attached to the aircraft carrier USS Saratoga. She (the ship) was herself attached to the U.S. Naval Atlantic Fleet. We cruised the Mediterranean Ocean with many stops at port-o-calls, such as Rota, Spain and Naples, Italy. I was honorably discharged with commendations on New Years Eve, 1977 (but it's hard to remember that day... or the NEXT...hic...burp). With all this moving about, is it any wonder why I am still single and without any children, that I have been made aware of. So, my brothers & sisters, drop me a line should any of you happen to remember me, or even if you don't, for the chances are that I would remember YOU.
