Richard's Story
Life
Hey everyone! Living in Sparta, NJ - up in the NW corner of the state since 1993. Married to Carol, Rutgers '82, since Jan. '82, have 4 children, Jordan - 25 who lives home (get out already!); Janessa-23, a Nurse now living in Alexandria, VA and working at Fairfax Hospital; Stephanie, 21 who is a Junior at Gettysburg College (PA) but who is doing a Jr. Semester abroad in Ecuador. As of 10/17 she's heading to the Galapogos Islands for a week of marine bio studies, then to the Amazon (2nd trip) for a 4 week research project. Cool, but we hardly hear from her so we worry; and Rachel, 17 and a busy HS Senior. Soccer, Lacrosse, working, Class VP, volunteering, parties, you remember - right! She has Senioritis already because she earned a Lacross scholarship to U. of Delaware so she's already accepted. She's excited, Fashion Merchanidising major and she's playing on a top 15 D-1 team. Awesome job!
Carol was a stay at home Mom for 23 years and did a great job at her job which was our family. She's now a Teacher's Assistant at a private kindergarten and has about 20 kids who love her each year.
Me, working at Verizon Business (the old MCI) for 22 years now. ...Expand for more
Came here for 3 years, got caught up in the Telecom boom, then bust, and now picking up again. Worked in small business, then moved up to large, then national, then Global accounts (J&J) which took me to Europe, Asia and LatAm for business. I graduated as a Geologist and moved to Colorado working for a small oil exploration company. This was during the peak of the Oil boom that busted in 1983 so I moved back to NJ after Jordan was born (Ft. Collins, CO) to be closer to family and to get a job. Over the next 3 years I built houses, sold cars, subbed at WHS for 6 mos which was strange, and renovated a house in Burlington - all to survive before landing at MCI.
We live in the mountains (hills for those outside of Jersey) and have a boat on the state's largest private lake (Lake Mohawk). Skiing at Mt. Creek, the old Great Gorge, now a huge resort area, is only 1/2 hr from the house. Almost an empty nester, strange again when it happens next year at age 49, but looking forward to it too. BROKE from putting 4 kids through college, but fortunate enough to have been able to do so.
Reach out if you read this! I miss all my HS friends, you guys truly are the best!
