Richard's Story
I attended Rosemont Elementary School in 1960 first grade up to six grade druing that time I came across many children that I got to play with, go to classes and try to learn something from my teachers. Around nine years old I started working making two dollars a day for two hours after of school, that was cool because now I had money in my pocket. During this time I joined the Cub Scouts, then at 10 1/2 years old I moved up to the Boy Scouts Troop 52 which was a lot of fun, we went all kinds of fun functions, the best ones that I enjoyed were the camping trips once a month. After elementary school, some of my friends were going to King Jr. High and others going to Virgil Jr. High in the fall of 1966. My parents did not want me to go to Virgil they felt that I would be getting into fights with the rough crowd, but I went anyway because I felt that I could hold my own and most of my friends were going there away. I did get into a few fights with the bad guys, because I did not want to run away from those guys just because they wanted to push their weight around. After awhile they ask me to join their gang, I told them no and that I was already in one and they wanted to know what was the name of my gang and my reply was the Boy Scouts, after that they did not ask me anymore, true story. My family and I stayed in Los Angeles unti...Expand for more
l the spring of 1969; we moved out to the San Gabriel Valley, they purchase a home in a small town named Monterey Park. I finished the seventh and eight grades at Virgil with taking two RTD buses to get school. Each bus ride would cost fifteen cents plus a transfer, and I think that was five cents extra. So here I am thirteen years old taking a bus from the San Gabriel Valley into downtown Los Angeles and then jumping onto other bus to take me almost to Hollywood what a trip that was, up to three months I did for that. The San Gabriel Valley high schools go for four years, leaving junior high with only two years them jumping right into high school that was something to prepare for and I did so by going to summer school at my new high school. First of all I do missed all my friends back in Los Angeles and I always will but it was too far away for a fourteen year old boy to travel at any given time back to L.A. I transfer into the Boy Scouts Troop 301 started to make some friends there and at summer school, I did the best that I could. Met guys and girls at Keppel in the classrooms and going out for sports, worked some part time jobs, because I like money in my pocket. Life has not been too bad, we all have bumps in our lives it all depends on how one deals with them. If you should remember me, then e-mail me a line. Take care.
