Richard's Story

I was raised in Carlsbad NM I attended St. Edwards 1st through 8th grade. Freshman I started at ST. Micleals Indian School AZ. Thanksgiving we moved to Alamogordo NM(1959)When school was out that year we moved to Raton NM for the summer. When school started we returned to Carlsbad for my Sophomore year. I got my drivers license, that summer we moved to Lompoc CA. I drove the car, 1951 Ford to Tucson AZ where my Dad took over.That was my Junior year, summer came we returned to Carlsbad for my Senior year. Met Phyllis Einkauf that summer through the neighbor girls.We dated through senior year. After graduation I went to Albuquerque to Electroins Trade School.Returned to Carlsbad ,was hired by General Telephone Co. Married Phyllis Feb 7 1964, we had 3 girls, we parted 20 years later Aug 1983. Phyllis died of cancer Sept 2006 in Dixon Il. From these 3 girls I have 9 grand kids 2 boys 7 girls 2 great grand kids boy 2 a girl 6. I was with GTSW for 5 years then transfered to the parent company GTE Automatic Electric Co. the manufacturer of telephone eguipment. ephone operator, she had 3 kids, a girl and 2 boys. After we were married I resigned and moved to Albuquerque and Meadow Lake and worked for several telephone interconnect co, My parents were getting on in age and I was between jobs and was hired by Penasco Valley Telephone COop, a rural telephone company In Artesia,Judy was going to UNM at the time she transfered to Portales When she finished she wanted to return to Albuquerque, I did't want to return to the big city. So she went Aug 1993. Aug must be abad month for me . In July 1994 While building the fire station at Queen NM I met Janie (Clanton) Smith with some encouragement from some mutul frieds . Janie husband had passed away suddlenly of a heart attact.We were together till july 2004 when see died from complications of a heart attact. Janie couldn't wait till I retired so we could move to Queen full time not just the weekends. Penasco Valley Telephone retired me at age 61, 5 years ago, I moved to my place at Queen NM . Janie's cat Tadpole and I are both HAPPY to run wild here in the mountains. I do some volunteer work with another guy for the Forest Service in the Lincon National Forest here at Queen. I like to read thank goodness for the Book Mobile once a month
