I started the first grade at the old white wooden grade school at the west end of town way back in 1942. My first grade teacher was a diminutive dark haired little lady named Miss kyfer. I still remember the first day that school started. All the first graders were out front of the school waiting for the bell to go in. Several boys were out front where myself and Billy Wilkins were challenging others to a foot race to see who was the fastest. I do not know if anyone of my classmates ever saw the mud balls that left mud stains on the front of the school but my brother and I were caught by Mr. Paul Johnson the superintendent throwing mud ballsat the front of the school.He frightened us by threatening to haul us to jail in an old Ford wood truck that had happened to be driving by. We never ever did anything like that again. The really funny part of it was I threw a mud ball up on the ceiling of the porch and whil it eventually dried and dropped off the mud stain was never painted over or cleaned and was still there twenty years later.
