Richard's Story
Life
Retired from the U.S. Coast Guard after 22 years of service, April 2003 as a Senior Chief Electrician. Married since 1990. Moved to a house in Titusville, FL. I really miss Mobile and all my friends I grew up with. Never thought I would leave Mobile but the Coast Guard took care of that. Really enjoyed the 10th, 20 th and 25th class reunions. A lot of you put a lot of your personal time into making it happen and they turned out fantastic. Looking forward to future reunions.
Between careers, my wife and I towed our camper around the western half of the U.S. for four months in 2003. This has been the highlight of my life seeing the country in a camper. We still talk about "the big trip" all the time. Wish we could do it again but it was a once in a life time adventure I highly recommend to all.
After that, I started my second career with Brevard County maintenance as an electrician like I was in the military. In 2006, I passed my Master Electrician exam. Things are going pretty good for us...... except for property tax.... homeowners insurance...... hurricanes.... oh well, I'm happy, life is good.
Workplace
My first job when I was 16 was as a bagger at "Big D G...Expand for more
rocery Store". At 17, I worked for half a year at a loan company downtown Mobile and then in the warehouse at Sears for half a year before landing a job at a printing company that paid really good. After 2 and a half years at Clarke Checks Printing, I joined the US Coast Guard and retired after 22 years of service. I worked for a short while at Appliance Direct until landed a better job April 2004 for Tri-City Electric which covers all central Florida. Then I landed an even better job with Brevard County since August 2004. In 2006, I went from Journeyman Electrician to Master Electrician. Oh happy days.
Military
Joined the US Coast Guard in April of 1981 after working 2 1/2 years at a printing company. I have been staioned on land units in New York, New Orleans and Key West, Fl. I have also done underway tours on three different 95-foot patrol boats out of Savannah, Ga and Key West, two tours on 270-foot Cutters out of Key West and my final tour on the Gallatin, a 378-foot Cutter out of Charleston, S.C. After 22 years of active duty and advancing to the rank of E-8, Senior Chief Electrician, I retired from the service and I would do it all over again and wouldn't change a thing.
