Richard's Story

After High School, I did 5 years at Purdue and got an A.A.S. and a B.S. in Electrical Engineering Technology. I then went to work for a manufacturing company that specialized in equipment for Agriculture and Ag Research Companies. I managed their electronics division and did everything from developing and testing new products to repairs and customer support. Yes, most of the time it was just me, but it was a great learning experience. After a couple of years, I went to work for Purdue's Ag and Biological Engineering Department. I had a huge title, but basically I assisted Grad students and their Professors with their research projects. They came to me with what kind of data they were wanting to collect and I designed a way of collecting it. Rather it be using Labview, VB or VC to interface with data acquisition hardware or building custom electronics. After marrying my beautiful wife, Kristen, we moved to Wheaton, IL. We met in Tae Kwon Do while I was still in College and dated for about 6 years. She was starting a new job. I had a week during vacation to find a house, get a loan and find a job. Yes, God was definitely looking over us and does provide. We found a house and after landing a job, the bank was a little less nervous in giving us a mortgage. I started out as a Test Engineer and now I am a...Expand for more
System Design Engineer. I design what are called vacuum florescent display (VFD) modules. For those who are still curious as to what VFD's are, they are the digital displays you find in home audio equipment, appliances and automotive. Yes, the blinking clock on your old vcr. Our customers consist of companies like Bose, Honeywell, GE, GM, Delphi Automotive, etc. On the side, I have been running a web hosting company, Page Hosting 4U LLC, since 2001. I enjoy designing websites and developing web applications. I have further expanded my fun of writing applications to writing apps for the iPhone. Projects are still in the making. Just recently, while in the middle of adopting a baby from South Korea, the Lord blessed us with a surprise. We had a little girl. Unfortunately, the adoption agency pulled us out of the adoption process. But we are happy with our girl. Well, another update. The company I had been working for for the past 9 years, had me in their latest list of layoffs. I can't complain as they have been laying off people for the past 3 years. I have watched the office I was in go from 50+ people down to just a handful. Praise God for the wonderful severance package and another job after only a month and a half of looking. For those of you still looking, I pray that you find something soon.
