Richard's Story

As published in the Reunion Bio Booklet, March 31, 2022: My story begins upon graduation from DePere High School in 1972. I had always wanted to attend an Engineering College and was fortunate to be accepted to the Milwaukee School of Engineering for the Fall of ‘72. But, after 2 years and several part-time jobs, I decided that it really wasn’t for me. So, I entered the working world as an electricians’ helper for the Milwaukee Road railroad. Being a railfan, this was the perfect job. Unfortunately the Road closed their shops after I was there for only 6 months. With nothing else, I began my career in the Field Service profession, starting with the Addressograph Corp. This continued for the next 25 years through various employers, as well as running my own business for 15 of those years. As time and technology progressed, the need for my kind of services declined and I found it was time for a change. I then began my next career with AT&T in the Outside Plant Planning group that was responsible for the planning and deployment of copper and subsequently fiber-based equipment and services. This work continued until my ultimate retirement in 2013. Family: In the fall of 1975, I m...Expand for more
et my future wife, Debbie Heiman, and in July of 1977 we were married. We have one daughter, Caryl (pronounced Carol), born in 1982. Hobbies: While I am technically retired, one of my other passions is Motorsports. I am active as a licensed, participating race official with Sports Car Club of America, Indycar, IMSA, NASCAR, Trans-Am, World Challenge, FIA Formula E, and others. These Events mostly occur at Road America in Elkhart Lake, WI, but I work many other venues across the U.S. as well. During the racing off-season, I'm also a volunteer Firefighter for the PMVFD in our area. Relocation Story: During our years together, we always asked ourselves: Where do you really want to live in retirement? After searching around the country during our travels, we finally ended up buying a remote property in North Central Arkansas along the shoreline of Bull Shoals Lake, where we reside today. We also have a camper located in the Elkhart Lake area that we use during the racing season when not in Arkansas. Epilogue: Sadly, on January 4, 2022, Debbie Roberts, my wife, best friend and partner for almost 45 years, passed away unexpectedly. Current contact at: CORSA180 at yahoo dot com.
