Richard's Story

2-3-16 -- I'm trying to get to my guestbook page, but no luck. Had troubles with this on my other computer, but I don't have a tracking blocker on this browser. Don't know what's up. Thanks for remembering me in any event. 11-18-15---Thanks to all who tried to contact me this year. I was sick earlier this year but my doctor went on vacation and I got well on my own, so there. I finished a novella, The Big Shut Up, Oct 1. It's my first about politics and most likely my last. What we're going through right now reminds me a little of the late 1960's. My website is doing very well, in the past five months its gone from nothing to almost 800 subscribers with almost no promotion. I think Yahoo is helping me out. Now, I'm working on the deferred maintenance on my house. I'm replacing sinks, vanities, floor tiles, etc. It's amazing how good You Tube is with that subject. Its like going back and taking all the shop classes i missed. Anyway, I'll be at the reunion June. See you there. 7-4 Happy 4th of July to those who've recently tried to contact me. I've tried to send email through the classmates email system, but classmates evidently does not like my new browser. I'm getting an error message which doesn't make any sense. After having several i.d. theft problems, I now use a tracking software blocker and pop up blocker. It's a war out there on the internet! Ha. ha. I'm working on my third book and updating my bathrooms (myself.) No more carcinomas for now. 9-14-- Well, I had another carcinoma cut out out and stitched it up on June 30. They cut a chunk about 1-1/2 by 1/2 inches on the upper left side of my forehead. I noticed a tiny red dot and when I pointed it out to Dr. Honch, he got busy. I remember my Dad went through a period of serious surgery (they cut out 1/3 of his nose and then rebuilt it) and then he also had the Efudex treatment (I called him the Purple Monster from the Lagoon. Ha. Ha. Little did I know!) But he recovered from both of those treatments and lived for another 14 years. He died from a rare from of circulation failure at almost 87 years old. It had nothing to do with skin cancer. Thanks to all who have expressed concern. 4/14---My cancer treatments were successful so far. It appears to be gone. I'm mostly recovered from the side effects. I've been posting regularly on my website ucalidusaura.com. I seem to be acquiring one or two followers per day. My posts are mostly about "Do-It-Yourself Learning." I have no advertising on my site, except for promoting my books. I have another book in mind 12/13---I'm undergoing another round of skin cancer treatme...Expand for more
nts. This time it's Aldara instead of Efudex. Much more powerful drug with heavier side effects. More of a nuisance than life threatening. My father went through all of this back in the 80's. 10/13--My latest book is finished. The Title is The Catrobat. It is a Kindle edition. Since I evidently can't link from classmates, It is listed either under the title or under Rollo, Richard M. It is available worldwide. The only thing missing from the summary of it below is that the Captain trains Wiley the Catrobat to become a cat acrobat thus The Catrobat. Hope you like it. My latest finished work is "Here's the Latest from the Planet Bagosh." It's my tribute to Ray Bradbury. My current project has had a couple of working titles, the most descriptive of which is The Cat, The Captain and his Wife, The Campers, and the Crook. It takes place in the postwar 1940's at various locals but they all end up in Florida for a winter vacation. I retired from ELAC June 5, 2010. I finished my first book in Summer of 2011 and encoded it for Kindle and it was published September 29, 2011 by Amazon Kindle. The title is Maki and the Bolide. Opps: I can't link to it in Classmates. Well look on Amazon for Rollo, Richard "Maki and the Bolide." For those of you from Minnesota: no, it is not about anyone you know, although it was inspired by people I remember from my early childhood. Oddly enough, I always thought of Maki as a Finnish name but a Japanese guy I knew at Montebello High was also named Maki. The book was also inspired by Simo Hayha, the little hero of the Winter War of 1939. But, this past year, I did write a Minnesota story. It's titled "An Old Ice Fishing Story" based on a tragic real event that happened a long time ago. One ice fisherman gave it a five star review, which I consider high praise. I also have undergone numerous treatments for non-fatal skin cancer. It's a nuisance more than anything else. It means I have to wear broad brimmed hats outside, so now I even look like a guy from the late 1940's. I recently read that these new curly light bulbs emit high doses of UVA radiation like going to a tanning booth, so I had to get rid of them. Update. I've now had five Efudex treatments (external chemo) three surgeries, numerous liquid nitro treatments and I don't think I'm done with it yet. My father and his brother both had it so it's genetic. With regret, I deleted my facebook account. I don't believe that company is being run in a mature and professional manner. That's all I will say about it. . Thanks to all who have contacted me. Best wishes in the new year to all.
