Richard's Story

Life Those who know me well, know me. I'm usually one of those you may glimpse at in a crowd when your are searching for someone else. That suits me fine. Being the center of attention is not me. However, I'm not, nor have ever been, a follower. I would'nt necessarily jump when they are asking for leaders, but have no aversions to leading. I prefer to forge my own way, even though that has gotten me into trouble on occasion, but that was then. I'm smarter and seasoned now and do a better job of bobing and weaving ("it never happened unless you've got it on film", joking). Since graduating from "The Ranch", my life's journey has been filled with a variety of stops. Some interesting and others not as. I, like many of us, went on to college, but avoided the "High School on the Hill" (Rio Hondo), cuz I knew it would be more of a party place than a place to get schooling. After graduating from college, my tram stopped briefly at GTE to revisit co-workers I had met during summer employment while in college. I was one of first two guys to ever work in a directory assistance office which staffed over 200 females (talk about the proverbial Fox in the Hen House, and sometimes it felt like we were the hens). It was without question a fun place to work, and met some nice people. After leaving GTE in Jan of '75 work got serious. I hired on with United Callifornia Bank for two years in a management position and discovered that working indoors was not for me. I then went on to work for Los Angeles County in a ...Expand for more
career that robbed me of my youth and innocense, but I loved it. Work injuries caused me to leave earlier than planned, but maybe that was a good thing becuase I had become a work addict. My journey continued with a number of interesting stops. Worked for dignitaries, celebrities, corporate executives, and foreign diplomats, and even myself; which is where I am currently. I never married, but was close once. Now that I am more settled, have the work bug out of me, and do not take life for granted anymore, I am working harder at enjoing the quality of life. One day, may even settle down should that "right gal" come my way. Until then, I will catch up on all the life's pleasures I have missed out on including re-connecting with friends, and especially family. Take care ya all, hope to visit with you some time. Don't forget to take your vitamins and say your prayers. God Bless You!! Workplace Too many to go into detail, but I survived them all. Looking forward to the monthly check. Military While attending Loyola U. my freshman year, a good buddy of mine convinced me to join up with him in the U.S.M.C. PLC/OCS program, so I did. We spent the first summer in boot camp at the lovely resort of Quantico, Virginia. The remaining college summers would be spent training in Virginia or San Diego. Towards the start of my second summer, it was discovered my vision was deteriorating and meant I could no longer continue in the aviator program. I was discharged from the PLC/OCS program after my second year.
