Richard's Story

I left Carmel like so many others for college in 1965. I first graduated from SUNY Cobleskill in 1967 where I majored in Dairy Science. Soon after I nicely settled into working on a career, like many of my fellow alumni, Uncle Sam sent notice, I was drafted. In 1970 I started my career again as a Dairy Farmer. Being pushed out of the lower Hudson Valley because of the high price of land my wife and I purchased a 360 acre farm in Montgomery County, upstate. I worked my dairy farmer until 2000, when I started a new career in the Agricultural Safety field. During my farming days I managed to continue my education and obtained a Bachelor’...Expand for more
s Degree in Agricultural Economics. From 2000 – 2006, I continued farming but on more of an absentee bases. By 2004, I graduated from Penn State University with a Master’s in Education. Since 2004 I have been employed by Cornell University working for the Cooperative Extension, as a Dairy Science and Farm Management Extension Resource Educator in Saratoga County. I married a girl from Pawling who came to my 1965 High School graduation and we will celebrate 42 years of marriage next month. We were blessed with three children and now four grandchildren. I spend my time between work, being the Town Justice, and plotting my retirement.
