Richard's Story

After high school, I went to OBU where I received a Bachelors in Music Ed. and a wife, Pam. After student teaching in my senior year, I discovered that I wasn't a good classroom teacher so I went to graduate school at OCU where I got a Masters in Vocal Performance. Meanwhile, my wife is supporting me as a elementary music teacher in Edmond. After graduating from OCU, I opened a voice studio and did some performing on the side. I spent 3 summers in Ohio perfoming with the Ohio Light Opera Company. Where we met some great friends who were attending LSU. I wasn't satisfied with where my career was going so I looked into the doctoral program at LSU and ended up going. Just before leaving to go to LSU, my first son was born, Robert Luke in '99. We spent three great years in Baton Rouge meeting good friends and learning a lot about ourselves. I was leading worship at a small church that was having lots of problems. It was then that I started feeling God's call into music ministry because I was enjoying working in that church more than going to school. I finished my course work at LSU and got a job teaching voice at the University of South Alabama in Mobile AL. I was also leading worship at First Baptist Church in Vancleave MS, just across the border from Mobile. It was there that my call to worship ministry was solidified and I started applying for church jobs in OK. In May of 2003 I got a job at Immanuel Baptist Church in Norman, OK and in July my daughter was born, Molly Catherine. 2 1/2 years later, W...Expand for more
e moved to Marietta, OK where I am currently the worship pastor at First Baptist Church. My life has been very interesting and nomadic since graduating from HS. My son says that we have moved every 2 years since he was born so it's about time to move again. We'll see what God has planned. My wife is a great woman of God and a type A personality which balances me perfectly. We were good friends at OBU and went on one date our freshman year but really didn't think anything would become of it so we remained friends. We grew closer and closer over the next year and starting dating seriously in our sophomore year. They always say you should marry your best friend and that's what I did. My kids are great as well. Luke is brilliant. He must get it from his mother. He makes strait As in school and loves to read. He is also taking piano lessons (he will be good enough to play for me in church in just a couple of years) and he is involved in cub scouts where I am his den leader. That has been exciting by itself. 10 3rd grade boys every Fri. for an hour and a half. We like to say "Good Golly Miss Molly". I am very afraid for her to become a teenager. Is it against the law to lock your kids in their room until college? Pam says this is my punishment for my childhood. She is just like me and very much a daddy's girl. Well, if you are still reading this after all that rambling...Get a Life! (LOL) I hope everyone has been doing well. Drop me an email. I would love to hear from everyone. In Christ, Richard
