Richard's Story
Hello all. After college in Peoria, I lived in Lyons, Bensenville, Addison and now in Downers Grove since 1985.Two children, Erik and Dana both live out of my house. I previously worked at GTE, UOP, Com Ed and now work as an pilot plant electrical engineer at BP research in Naperville. Came from a family of 10 children who all went to OLCHS graduating between 1973 to 1987. I remember the snow storm of 1967, when my dad picked up students at St. Alberts of Burbank. We walked to Jewel on 79th st/Ridgeland with a sled to get groceries. Also, I saw the Oak Lawn tornado from start to finish that year. I mostly remember when Oak Lawn came in 2nd place in state for basketball in 1970. In those days we took shop classes which were very interesting electives. I use some algebra every day...Expand for more
. Thank You Mr. Hess (math) for the 500 word problems my freshman year. Chemistry has come in handy working at BP. I am still healthy and slim despite 44 years since graduating HS in 1974. I am now single. Son Erik is back in Naperville working in sales at age 29 after previously trying to establish a new life in the Denver area. Dana at age 27 has finished at College of Dupage and Chamberlain nursing school now working at Hinsdale hospital. She married in 2015. I am hoping to work until at least age 65, economy and 401k allowing. My parents have both passed on. My siblings are all still doing well. Ron lives in Springfield MO area, Tom and Laurie live in the Denver area. Remainder live with their families in northern Illinois. Wish you all the best. Richard J. Vahl.
