Richard's Story
I studied and excelled in auto mechanics while in high school and started a full time job at a Ford dealership within days of graduating in 1971. In 1978 I got a job at Bethlehem Steel where my father, two uncles, brother, sister and cousin also worked. I got married in 1979 and had three children by the time we got divorced ten years later. In 1989 I got custody of the children and for 15 years I had to concentrate on doing the best I could as a single dad. arted helping my father maintain a dozen rental homes. My father had deteriorating health due to diabetes and died in 2010. At that point, I was able to retire from working as a mechanic and now I own, manage and maintain 14 rental homes. I sold my home in Baltimore and built a homestead in Flagler Beach where I intend to live out my life. Recently, I have bought some vacant land and built new homes on them which I have sold for profit. Now that I am seriously vested in this city, I have become involved enough that I am now an elected official. In March of 2016, I was elected and started a three year term as one of five Flagler Beach City Commissioners.
